Role Description Spalding, a Saalex Company is seeking a Model Based Systems Engineer (MBSE) in Lexington Park, MD. This is a remote position. Essential Functions: - Develop and manage MBSE products and initiatives that support modeling NAVAIR logistic data and systems as they mature a digital twin of naval aviation. - Architecture Analysis - Analyze and decompose the current Teamcenter product lifecycle management (PLM) architecture to map existing components and integration points. - Data Modeling - Document and diagram existing data elements; map current data structures to the new NPLM target model. - DoDAF Artifact Creation - Develop and maintain Data Item Views (DIV-1 and DIV-2) for both the existing COMET/HII data model and the new NPLM Base Model. - ETL & Integration Modeling - Design Extract, Transform, Load (ETL) models, including 4GD transformations; author and maintain Interface Control Documents (ICD). - Technical Documentation - Draft and finalize comprehensive System Design Documentation (SDD) for the architecture transition. - Deprecation Analysis - Evaluate the existing Teamcenter and OEM data models to identify components and legacy structures eligible for retirement. - Collaborate with other engineering teams in planning, design, and development of systems to ensure software and hardware performance and compatibility. - Maintain system model in Cameo model-based systems engineering tool. - Participate in design working group and technical interchange meetings. - Other duties as assigned or required. Qualifications - 3 years’ experience with systems engineering and the utilization of model-based systems and digital engineering processes, principles, techniques, and procedures. - Understanding of model-based systems engineering tools such as Cameo, Magic Draw, Rhapsody, and/or other SysML modeling tools. - Core MBSE Expertise - Proven background in systems analysis, data modeling, and creating complex system architecture diagrams using industry-standard MBSE tools (e.g., Cameo, Sparx EA). - Frameworks & Methodologies - Extensive hands-on experience generating DoDAF or UAF artifacts, with specific proficiency in data views (DIV-1, DIV-2). - Demonstrated proficiency in industry-standard MBSE tools (e.g., Cameo Enterprise Architecture, Sparx Enterprise Architect, or Siemens System Modeling Workbench) with a proven ability to generate DoDAF 2.02 artifacts and data models. Role Description This role is responsible for leading the development and integration of system-level, multi-domain simulation models that represent complete vehicle and powertrain behavior, including mechanical, electrical, thermal, and control systems. It includes ownership of the integration and co-simulation of third-party physics-based tools, such as GT Power engine and thermal models and AMESim driveline and system models, within a MATLAB/Simulink-based simulation framework. - Design and maintain co-simulation architectures and interfaces to enable consistent data exchange, synchronization, and execution between MATLAB/Simulink, GT Power, and AMESim models. - Define and govern model architectures, shared libraries, and integration standards to ensure scalability, reuse, and consistency across multiple vehicle and powertrain configurations. - Plan, prioritize, and coordinate multi-domain modeling, integration, and validation activities across internal teams and external contributors. - Lead MATLAB/Simulink-based multi-domain development through technical guidance, code and model reviews, and direct development involvement whenever needed. - Act as the primary technical authority for cross-domain model behavior, diagnosing and resolving issues related to interactions between engine, transmission, electric machine, battery, thermal, and vehicle systems. - Define and execute validation and correlation strategies to ensure co-simulated results are robust, repeatable, and suitable for engineering decision-making. - Oversee the structure, versioning, and quality of shared model and component libraries used across multiple programs and teams. - Support internal engineering users by managing issue triage and resolution related to system level and co-simulation behavior. - Drive continuous improvement of model robustness, computational performance, and complexity management to enable scalable simulation across multiple vehicle programs. Qualifications - Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering, preferably in Mechanical, Electrical, Controls, Systems Engineering, or a related field. - 7+ years of experience developing system-level or multi-domain simulation models for complex engineered systems such as automotive, aerospace, energy, or similar industries. - Proven experience in a technical leadership role, particularly with responsibility for model architecture, integration, and cross-domain consistency. - Strong hands-on experience with MATLAB and Simulink, including development, integration, and debugging of large-scale system models. - Proven experience with co-simulation and tool integration, including coupling GT Power engine and thermal models and AMESim driveline or system models with MATLAB/Simulink. - Experience defining and maintaining co-simulation interfaces, data exchange mechanisms, and execution workflows across multiple modeling tools. - Ability to directly contribute to development efforts to resolve complex technical issues involving multiple interacting subsystems. - Experience coordinating work across global teams and external engineering partners. - Strong analytical thinking, problem-solving capability, and technical communication skills. - Fluent English, both written and spoken, is required.
