Principal Product Manager
Karat
• Own the product vision, strategy, and execution for our interview platform • Help define the roadmap for our product suite; evaluate how we should leverage AI to provide a stronger signal and measure of a candidate’s technical capabilities; collaborate with leadership to shape Karat's strategy in the evolving technical assessment market. • Prioritize features based on customer needs and business objectives; partner with engineering, content, and UX teams to deliver high-quality solutions. • Analyze assessment data to improve accuracy; design experiments to evaluate different approaches; leverage our database of hundreds of thousands of candidates to enhance our signal on candidate performance. • Monitor performance metrics and identify opportunities for improvement; partner with Go-to-Market (GTM) teams on expansion strategies; develop compelling business cases for new offerings.
Job Requirements
- 8+ years of product management experience working on B2B and B2C offerings, and ideally, past experience working as a software developer
- Hands-on technical background with a CS degree (or equivalent); actively codes using AI-assisted tools and stays current with the evolving developer experience firsthand
- Demonstrated experience defining, launching, selling, and scaling successful products with proven business impact
- Ability to engage with senior, highly technical leaders at large enterprises on topics related to evaluating core software developer fundamentals
- Excellent communication skills; able to explain complex technical concepts to diverse stakeholders and lead cross-functional teams
- Successful experience in executive presentations, ability to communicate business value, as well as product features/benefits, and gain executive buy-in.

Role Description The Product Manager leads one of Watermark's products or modules, defining a clear product strategy tied to the portfolio vision and driving sustained product growth and success. They serve as the go-to expert for their product and its market and take an ownership posture over delivery: unblocking the team, ensuring quality, and driving outcomes. Working with other product managers, designers, engineers, and subject matter experts, they apply user-centered design and iterative delivery principles to maximize value delivered. Key Responsibilities - Research competitive and alternative offerings, market trends, and domain developments; maintain a thorough understanding of product strengths and weaknesses across functional, technical, competitive, and customer dimensions. - Develop and communicate a product strategy and prioritized roadmap that aligns with business goals, portfolio vision, and resource constraints, balancing business, user, and technical needs including the business impact of technical debt. - Shape product requirements through close iteration with designers, engineers, and AI tools, refining fuzzy product ideas into well-structured briefs that the team can execute against with speed and clarity. - Develop business cases for new opportunities as directed by leadership. - Partner with cross-functional leaders to solve complex customer and business problems with high-quality solutions. - Ensure development teams account for legal, security, privacy, and compliance requirements in planning, design, and acceptance. - Own delivery outcomes for the product, serving in the backlog ownership role as needed; proactively unblock the team, review AI-assisted and human outputs for quality, and mitigate risks. - Evaluate and recommend AI-driven capabilities and workflows within the product, ensuring the team considers where AI can improve user outcomes and operational efficiency. - Collaborate on go-to-market planning and execution; ensure client-facing teams have the information, documentation, training, and resources they need. - Make recommendations on build-vs-partner decisions; manage partner integrations. - Maintain strong client relationships to inform decision-making and feedback cycles. - Track and report on key product metrics that inform success; drive decisions with data. - Mentor and develop junior team members, supporting onboarding and growth. Qualifications - 4+ years in SaaS product management or a closely related role (EdTech experience a plus). - Bachelor's degree in business, computer science, or related field, or equivalent work experience. - Strong understanding of software development life cycles, iterative delivery frameworks, and the overall product life cycle. - Proficiency in business analysis, use case documentation, and requirements gathering. - Demonstrated ability to elicit cooperation across functions, including leadership, clients, and peer teams. - Working knowledge of AI/ML concepts and the ability to evaluate AI-powered product opportunities and operational efficiencies. - Basic technical literacy, including comfort reviewing code, technical designs, and AI-generated outputs. - Strong analytical, problem-solving, conflict-resolution, and presentation skills. - Ability to manage a heavy workload with multiple projects and frequent context switching. - Experience working with cross-functional groups across multiple geographies.
