Role Description The Nuclear Steam Supply System (NSSS) Component Engineering organization generates technical requirements and associated design parameters for the modular advanced light water reactor (ALWR) NSSS. Utilizing proven state-of-the-art methodologies, NSSS components are engineered to nuclear industry standards. The person in this position performs design and stress analyses of pressure vessels, reactor vessel internals, and/or primary equipment supports in accordance with ASME BPVC Section III and applicable regulatory requirements. All work within the NSSS Component Engineering organization is completed under ASME NQA-1 quality assurance requirements and respective U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission guidelines. - Performs and documents evaluations of components to the rules and requirements of Section III of the ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code. - Analyzes components for pressure, mechanical/thermal loadings including Primary Stress, Primary plus Secondary stress intensity range, and Fatigue. - Utilizes results from evaluations to optimize component(s) design. - Direct experience with ANSYS finite element software and CAD packages. - Interprets scope and project requirements. - Acquires, maintains and develops training qualifications. - Interacts with co-workers and other disciplines to promote effective coordination of design activities and resolution of technical problems. - Performs other duties as assigned. Qualifications - A minimum of a B.S. degree in Engineering, preferably Mechanical Engineering, from a four year ABET accredited college or university is required. - An advanced degree is preferred. - A professional engineer (P.E.) certification is preferred. - Minimum of 6 years of full-time relevant working experience is required. - Experience utilizing ANSYS to perform stress analysis in accordance with Section III of the ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code, Subsections NB, NG, and/or NF. - Additional experience in seismic/dynamic analysis and computer programming skills (e.g., ANSYS APDL, Matlab, Python) is desired. - Eligible to work under Department of Energy 10 CFR Part 810. Requirements - Ability to understand and communicate clearly using a phone, personal interaction, and computers. - Ability to learn new job functions and comprehend and understand new concepts quickly and apply them accurately in a rapidly evolving environment. - The employee frequently is required to sit and stand; walk; bend, use hands to operate office equipment; and reach with hands and arms. - Ability to travel nationally and locally using common forms of transportation.
