• Provide revenue-based and operational support for a growing, carrier-class IP infrastructure deployed throughout a multi-state network • Responsible for deployment of network equipment as required • Designing new orders • Assisting as required in troubleshooting and resolving problems • Maintaining all network documentation to reflect the state of our network • Design services and networks in single platform and greenfield deployment scenarios • Generate installation documentation for a wide variety of network devices • Configure/reconfigure network infrastructure to support growth of the network • Create Method of Procedure (MOP) documents for localized maintenance on the network • Assist in troubleshooting and resolving service impairments, and affect proactive change to prevent future incidents • Communicate project status effectively and proactively to engineering support staff, project management, and other outside teams • Logging into and auditing devices to maintain network documentation that accurately reflects the state of our network • Implement engineering guidelines regarding performance, reliability, security, scalability by being able to complete installation, testing, and acceptance of network hardware and services • Identify opportunities to reduce cost • Other job-related duties as requested
Job Requirements
- 4-year engineering or computer science degree desired but will consider all relevant experience and appropriate certifications in lieu of completed degree
- Minimum 2 years’ experience in the telecommunications industry
- At least one significant industry certification – NRS-1, CCNA, or equivalent
- Working knowledge of PON, Transport, IP/MPLS, and xWDM technologies
- Knowledge of protection schemes and switching (G.8032, STP, MPLS)
- Understanding of networking architectures, standards and protocols including: Layer 0-2 standards, protocols, and equipment - Optical budget, splitters, VLANs, LACP, OAM, etc.
- Understanding layer 3-4 standards and protocols - TCP/UDP, MPLS, OSPF, BGP, VRRP, etc.
- Understanding of circuits and services – HSI, VPLS, P2P, Pseudowires, NNIs, UNIs, OVCs, etc.
- Experience with Metasolv or other telecom facility management
- Experience with relational databases, SQL queries, Perl/Python and software versioning repositories desired
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office products including Word, Excel and PowerPoint required
- Proficiency with Microsoft Project and Visio desired
- Familiarity with Element Management Systems, Solarwinds, NetFlow or OcularIP desired
- Ability to communicate effectively and professionally in person, by email and phone
- Ability to effectively manage multiple projects and tasks
- Strong attention to detail with ability to evaluate and analyze information quickly
- Ability to communicate technical matters to both peers and non-technical counterparts
- Ability to operate at both the tactical and strategic levels
