Job Description
Civil OSP Design Engineer/Specialist
AECOM
• Perform detailed civil and OSP design work, including underground conduit pathway layout • Trenching and duct bank design • Manhole and handhole placement • Utility coordination within public ROW • Develop and maintain plan and profile drawings, alignments, and surfaces using Civil 3D • Apply client-specific standards, templates, and engineering criteria to all design deliverables • Coordinate with project managers, survey teams, and designers to resolve design inputs and constraints • Incorporate municipal, DOT, and permitting feedback into revised design packages • Perform formal QA/QC reviews of civil and OSP design packages produced internally or by third-party designers • Verify compliance with client standards and design criteria, local jurisdictional requirements, and applicable industry codes and practices • Identify design inconsistencies, missing information, or constructability concerns • Document clear, actionable QC comments using Bluebeam and structured comment logs • Confirm resolution of QC comments prior to submittal • Support Project Managers by tracking design review cycles, revisions, and submittal readiness • Maintain QC checklists and contribute to continuous improvement of design quality processes • Identify recurring design issues and recommend upstream corrections or standards updates • Utilize digital workflow tools (e.g., Smartsheet, trackers, dashboards) to maintain visibility into design status and workload
Job Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Engineering Technology, or related discipline (or equivalent practical experience in Civil/OSP design)
- 2 years of hands-on civil-OSP design experience, including conduit or linear infrastructure or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education
- Demonstrated experience with AutoCAD and Civil 3D in a production environment
- Experience performing technical QA/QC reviews of design drawings
- Practical understanding of: Underground conduit systems, ROW design constraints, Utility coordination principles
- Strong written communication skills with the ability to provide clear technical feedback
- Ability to work independently in a remote, multi-project environment
- Telecommunications or OSP-specific civil design experience
- Experience designing for municipal ROW, DOT, or public infrastructure projects
- Proficiency with Bluebeam for design review and redlining
- Experience supporting permitting or responding to agency comments
