Senior Legal Counsel, Global Legal, Construction & Power

NTT Global Data Centers

Role Description Join NTT Global Data Centers and be part of a team that drives innovation and sustainability in the digital world. Your role at a glance: - High degree of autonomy within the role, working as part of the wider legal team under the supervision of the Senior Director, Legal. - Senior Legal Counsel with excellent experience in construction and power legal issues within the data center sector. - Global role with a focus on the US and Japan markets; ideal candidate based in the US with exposure to large data center deals. - Support the delivery of +1GW megadeals and +5GW of additional capacity over the next 5 years. - Legal advice on US/Japan construction, power, and regulatory matters, including EPCs, ESAs, utility tariffs, PPAs, and interconnection agreements. - Assess contractual, regulatory, and commercial risk, providing practical guidance to business, engineering, and finance stakeholders. Qualifications - Deep understanding of the US (and ideally Japanese) data center market, including construction, power, utility, and regulatory issues. - Ability to assess regulatory approval risk and unique challenges in the US (and Japan) market. - Experience engaging with Japanese utility providers would be beneficial. - Familiarity with utility-scale and/or corporate renewable PPAs, clean energy tax credits, and decarbonization strategies. - Strong written and verbal English communication skills. - Superb attention to detail; good organizational, communication, and multitasking skills. - Ability to work well independently and as part of a collaborative team across multiple time zones. - Strong executive presence and ability to convey complex concepts to non-construction audiences. Requirements - Fluent English is mandatory; Japanese fluency is a distinct advantage. - Juris doctorate or bachelor’s degree in law from an accredited US law school. - Current active member of the legal bar in good standing. - Minimum eight (8+) years relevant industry, private practice, or in-house experience. - Extended experience in data center or similar mission-critical facilities construction is desirable. - Willingness to travel internationally as required (unlikely to be more than 2x annually).
