Role Description The Application Engineer will oversee the application of new and in-service products used by our customers in the basic metals industry. This is a remote, field-based position supporting customers throughout the central and eastern United States. Candidates must reside within the following general region and be located within reasonable driving distance of a major airport: - Memphis, TN - St. Louis, MO - Chicago, IL - Detroit, MI - Pittsburgh, PA - Charlotte, NC - Birmingham, AL The primary activities will be to plan field trials in conjunction with the Fuchs sales force and customer prior to product introduction, including the setting of trial protocols, measurement of performance, and data collection over the course of the trial period. The position will also include periodic measurement of product groups already in service and recommending improvements in product performance. Specific responsibilities will include: - Lead field trials and technical evaluations for new and existing products, including troubleshooting performance issues and delivering clear, concise field reports. - Serve as the technical application expert for customers and internal teams by providing product recommendations, technical problem-solving, training, and application support. - Interface directly with customers to understand operational needs, support product approvals, strengthen long-term relationships, and demonstrate commitment to ongoing product development. - Partner closely with Sales, Product Management, and R&D to identify market-driven product opportunities, support new product development, and contribute to product launch initiatives. - Support strategic business development and sales efforts by delivering competitive market insights, technical expertise, and application knowledge to drive growth within target accounts. - Act as a key liaison between customers, sales, product management, and laboratory teams while contributing to cross-functional strategy development and project execution. Qualifications - A bachelor’s degree in a technical discipline such as Chemistry or Engineering is preferred, yet other degrees with demonstrated technical abilities will also be considered. - At least three years of experience within the basic metals or lubricants industries. - Working knowledge of basic metals facilities is an asset. - Knowledge of lubricant application, use, and maintenance in metal processing. - The ability to manage multiple priorities, make decisions with good judgment, think strategically to identify opportunities, and lead initiatives within a self-directed project team. - Excellent written and verbal communications skills. - Travel 70-80% requirement. What you'll do: - Proactively manages assigned claims caseload comprised of claims with moderate complexity damages that require commensurate knowledge and understanding of claims coverage. - Partners with vendors and internal business partners to facilitate moderate complexity claims resolution. May also involve external regulatory coordination to ensure appropriate documentation and compliance. - Investigates claim damages by conducting research from various sources, including the insured, third parties, and external resources. Develops recommendations and collaborates with management for determining settlement amounts outside of authority limits and accurately manages claims outcomes. - Maintains accurate, thorough, and current claim file documentation throughout the claims process. - Applies proficient knowledge of estimating technology platforms and virtual inspection tools; Utilizes platforms and tools to prepare claims estimates to manage moderate complexity property insurance claims. - Applies working knowledge of industry standards of inspection, damage mitigation and restoration techniques. - Serves as an informal resource for team members. - Recognizes and addresses jurisdictional challenges such as applicable legislation and construction considerations. - Supports workload surges and catastrophe (CAT) response operations as needed, including mandatory on-call dates and potential evening, weekend, and/or holiday work outside normal work hours. - May be assigned CAT deployment travel with minimal notice during designated CATs. - Works various types of claims, including ones of higher complexity, and may be assigned additional work outside normal duties as needed. - Ensures risks associated with business activities are effectively identified, measured, monitored, and controlled in accordance with risk and compliance policies and procedures..
