That starts with you! Job Summary: The Tax Senior Manager is responsible for supporting and leading the Tax department's professionals and attracting new business to the Firm. The Tax Senior Manager prepares tax filings and related matters, and ensures that the processes adhere to the state regulations and local procedures. Supervisory Responsibilities: - Act as coach and mentor to all employees in the Tax department. - Handle onboarding, training, discipline, and termination of employees in accordance with company policy. - Oversee the daily workflow of the department. - Provide constructive and timely performance evaluations. - Provide oversight and direction to the employees in the Tax department. Duties/Responsibilities: - Assist with staff training for new hires and ongoing staff training. Train, mentor, and provide direction to staff, including time management, general supervision, and guidance. - Conduct business development efforts, including, but not limited to, meeting with prospective clients, preparing fee quotes and proposals, and evaluating client's needs. - Conduct complex tax research and keep up with current laws, possessing sound knowledge of the latest tax laws. - Communicate directly with existing clients, colleagues, management, and federal & state taxing authorities regarding various tax matters. - Delegate projects to Associates & Senior Associates and provide accounting and tax assistance. - Recognize, anticipate, and resolve tax issues; make recommendations to Partners. - Respond to IRS and state agency audits, inquiries, and tax notices. - Review complex gift tax and estate tax returns. - Review complex U.S. and multi-state income tax returns for individuals and business entities, C-corporations, S-corporations, Partnerships, Fiduciary, and Non-Profit Organizations. - Take direction and report to the Partners of the Tax department. - Ability to work the required overtime hours during busy season. - Perform other related duties and projects as assigned. Education and Experience: Required: - Bachelor's degree in accounting, taxation, or related field. - CPA or Bar certification. - Eight+ years Public Accounting experience with a tax focus. Preferred: - Master's degree in accounting, taxation, or related field. - Significant supervisory experience. Required Skills/Abilities: - Competence with tax compliance and research software, including GoSystems, or other software. - Demonstrated ability to communicate verbally and in writing throughout all levels of the organization, both internally and externally. - Detail orientated and ability to multi-task, possesses excellent time management and prioritization skills. - Display sounds business and professional judgment. - Excellent organizational and time management skills. - Excellent written and verbal communication skills. - High degree of self-motivation and self-investment. - Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or similar software. - Works well under pressure and client deadlines. Physical Requirements: - Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at a time. - Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer. - Requirement to come into the office 1-3 days a week. Role Description As a Senior Manager on our State & Local Tax (SALT) team, you will lead complex direct tax (income/franchise) engagements for investment funds, private equity, hedge funds, and asset management clients. You’ll serve as a trusted advisor on multi-state tax matters, delivering strategic compliance, consulting, and structuring solutions with a strong emphasis on New York state taxation and Tri-State tax matters.
