Job Description

Principal Infrastructure and Platform Architect

Fiserv

• Provide enterprise-wide architectural leadership for infrastructure and platform services supporting low-latency, high-throughput, and highly resilient systems. • Define and evolve reference architectures, architectural principles, and design standards used across multiple teams and technology domains. • Lead the design of complex systems end-to-end—from bare metal and operating systems through networking, storage, and distributed platform services. • Drive architectural decisions that materially improve reliability, resiliency, observability, and operability at scale. • Influence standards for business continuity, disaster recovery, security controls, vulnerability management, and governance. • Architect platforms that enable and integrate with IT service management (ITSM), configuration management databases (CMDBs), lifecycle management, and operational governance frameworks. • Evaluate emerging technologies and guide responsible adoption, including streaming data platforms, modern data architectures, and machine-learning-enabled systems. • Act as a technical mentor and thought leader, providing architecture reviews, design guidance, and hands-on problem solving for the organization’s most complex challenges.

Job Requirements

  • 15+ years of deep technical experience in infrastructure engineering, platform engineering, systems architecture, or enterprise architecture roles.
  • Proven track record of enterprise-scale impact, designing and influencing highly available, low-latency, distributed systems used across multiple teams or business units.
  • Deep understanding of Linux system internals, networking, and infrastructure platforms (data center, cloud, or hybrid).
  • Experience across a wide range of technologies including distributed systems, databases (relational and non-relational), and data or messaging platforms.
  • Demonstrated ability to design systems with strong security, auditability, governance, and lifecycle management requirements.
  • Hands-on experience with CI/CD automation and zero-downtime or rolling deployment architectures.
  • Hands-on systems programming experience required, with the ability to design, build, debug, and reason about complex systems through code when needed.
  • Ability to communicate and influence effectively across engineering, operations, security, and executive stakeholders.

Worldwide

• Real systems that enterprise clients depend on. Not greenfield experiments, but a world class brand new platform with production code that has to be correct, observable, and resilient. • Integration layer that ingests structured data from enterprise sources (Snowflake, BigQuery, SQL databases) and routes it through our platform. • A Snowflake-to-BigQuery bridge over ODBC: custom infrastructure work that will serve as the pattern for all future enterprise integrations. • Webhook-triggered survey automation engine. Business events in the client’s system translate into survey sends through a reliable, auditable event pipeline. • REST APIs consumed by our frontend, enterprise integrations, and third-party clients — you’ll design contracts that have to last. • Event-driven microservices on GCP Pub/Sub and Kafka — async processing, backpressure handling, dead-letter queues, the full picture. • Security and SSO integration for enterprise clients with complex credential and access models. • Permission and access control systems that reflect matrix organizational hierarchies.
