Underwriting Associate
UFG Insurance
• Assist with underwriting insurance risks in accordance with the business plan and delegated authority. • Provide technical underwriting and administrative support to the underwriting staff. • Analyze underwriting information to triage, prepare and respond to quotes, renewals and policy endorsements. • Apply underwriting guidelines and ensure compliance with all company filings, rules, and regulations. • Underwrite and process all endorsement requests within assigned letter of authority statement. • Document assigned files with quality underwriting information aligned with business strategy. • Screen new business submissions for assigned underwriters and create file documentation. • Provide comprehensive analysis and underwriting recommendations to Underwriter when decisions exceed authority.
Job Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Associate or bachelor’s degree in a related field preferred but not required
- Completion of or working towards CIC or AU.
- 3 years of commercial property and casualty insurance experience preferred.
- Knowledge of coverage forms & endorsement used in policy construction.
- Efficiently utilize internal tools, resources, and administrative systems (Risk Selection & Line of Business Manual, Reference Connect, Guidewire, LC360, etc.) for effective decision making.
- Stay current on underwriting strategy, regulations & trends for assigned territory to make effective underwriting decisions.
- Strong commitment to quality.
- Strong time management skills with the ability to meet deadlines and effective dates.
- Ability to establish a high degree of trust for internal and external customers.

Role Description Relying on limited experience and knowledge, this role is responsible for accomplishing the following assignments. These assignments are varied in nature. - Review issues forwarded from the Underwriting group that includes complex diagnoses and then estimate ongoing costs. Provide this information to the specific Underwriter. - Act as support for renewal underwriting. This includes, but is not limited to, assessing the severity code on ongoing claims, adjusting reserves for accuracy, evaluating new referrals if effective within sixty days of notice, and assigning recommended specifics, if requested. - Educate Underwriters on how to recognize specific diagnoses and severe types of diagnoses to ensure these are identified and properly quoted during the underwriting process. • Organize and coordinate the servicing of new and renewal accounts according to Company guidelines and instructions from assigned Underwriter • Provide high quality professional service to Companies • Enter New Submissions in the clearance system and handle according to established procedures • Prepare and model new and renewal business as directed and supervised by an Underwriter • Review policies, endorsements, audits, cancellations, etc., resolve any discrepancies and make changes as needed • Review and process policy servicing requests (endorsement, audits, Company requests, Certificates, Premium Finance Notices and Cancellations, etc.) • Invoice and process new business and renewal binders, premium bearing endorsements, and cancellations according to internal and Company guidelines • Produce cancellation and non-renewal notices according to statutory and contractual requirements under the direction of assigned Underwriter • Manage underwriting files on accounts in which policies are not issued and handle according to Company and internal established procedures • Maintain pending/suspense system per established procedures • Maintain account files in accordance with company policy • Perform other duties as assigned
