Legal Talent Specialist Cooley is seeking Legal Talent Specialist to join the Legal Talent team. Position summary: The Legal Talent Specialist is responsible for independently coordinating local legal talent efforts, including a heavy emphasis on law student and attorney recruiting. Specific duties include, but are not limited to, the following: Position responsibilities: Recruiting: Lead the interview processes for law student and lateral recruitment - including review of direct applications, narrowing down candidate pools, scheduling virtual and office interviews,, and compiling interview feedback Draft offer memos in support of offer requests Assist in coordinating follow-up for recruits, including correspondence and closing efforts Ensure accurate data entry of all search firm, direct apply and on-campus applicants into the attorney recruiting database Update recruiting files and reports on a consistent basis Monitor recruiting expenses and work with Legal Talent assistants to ensure the accurate processing of expense reimbursements Coordinate the organization of all applicant files and other seasonal office files; setting up new database and/or record books for each year For summer associate recruitment, work with the local Recruiting Committee to coordinate recruitment strategy, discuss offer decisions, and provide them with candidate updates and other support during the recruitment process In conjunction with the Regional Legal Talent Manager, participate in law student recruitment efforts which may include traveling to law schools (and, in some instances, an overnight stay) to represent the firm and to connect with students Summer program: Work closely with Partners, hiring committees and Regional Legal Talent Manager to lead the Summer program Plan and organize various summer associate activities (e.g., luncheons, seminars, social activities) including conducting site visits for events and executing vendor contracts Assist Summer Associates looking for housing Prepare and distribute summer associate letters, questionnaire, conflict check and housing information Lead the planning for the local summer associate orientation and assembling documents that will be distributed to summer associates Work with the local office Summer Associate Committee to ensure a successful summer program for all Coordinate initial office assignments for summer associates and confirm other arrangements with various office administrative teams Responsible for creating the Summer Associate Directory Track expenses related to the Summer Associate Program Oversee the mid and end-of-summer evaluation processes and ensure each summer has diverse work assignments and substantive feedback Draft offer recommendation packets at the conclusion of the Summer Program Promotion/marketing: Establish and maintain contact with headhunters, law schools, minority law groups and other professionals involved in recruitment/placement through NALP section group and/or other industry groups. Prepare summer associate/entry level recruiting statistics including overall summary stats, individual school results, 2L/3L hiring results Assist in the organization of firm-sponsored receptions, including preparation and invitations New attorney hires: Finalize and distribute new associate letters, questionnaire, conflict check, bar information, relocation policy, etc. Assist in the implementation of programs and events designed to integrate new and lateral attorneys into the Firm Work with local and/or Central HR to update and distribute local orientation materials Coordinate bar activities for all incoming attorneys, including, but not limited to, taking the exam, requesting reimbursements and other licensing matters Other duties: In conjunction with the Regional Legal Talent Manager, prepare status reports and charts Assist the Regional Legal Talent Manager in conducting an interviewer-training seminar and other local kick-off events to inform the office(s) about various recruiting initiatives and updates Assist Regional Legal Talent Manager in ensuring that all forms and documents are kept current Work independently or with a Legal Talent Assistant(s) on occasional administrative projects, and to ensure accuracy of data entry and reports All other duties as assigned or required Skills & Experience: Required : After orientation at Cooley LLP, exhibit proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite, iManage and other firm applications Ability to work extended and/or weekend hours, as required Ability to travel, as required 4+ years prior experience in recruiting Preferred: Bachelor's Degree Knowledge of current hiring/staffing/termination trends at other competing law firms HR software experience a plus Prior experience in a law firm environment HR software experience Competencies: Excellent interpersonal and communication skills Ability to work well with others and operate independently Strong knowledge of the firm’s various practice areas, offices, and attorney staffing needs Strong organizational skills with ability to juggle several tasks at once Self-motivated and demonstrates accountability Reliable and cooperative manner Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines Strong leadership skills Cooley offers a competitive compensation and excellent benefits package and is committed to fair and equitable employment practices. EOE. The expected annual pay range for this position with a full-time schedule is $85,000 - $105,000 . Please note that final offer amount will be dependent on geographic location, applicable experience and skillset of the candidate.
