Role Description Our engineering team builds the systems that make a global virtual school actually work: the student and parent app and backend (CGA Home), internal sales and marketing tools, school operations infrastructure, and the public website. As Engineering Team Lead, you'll spend most of your time shipping great code you're proud of, and the rest leading a small team of engineers, shaping CGA's technical direction, and partnering with Product to make sure what we ship delivers real value. This is a hands-on leadership role for an experienced engineer ready to step into people leadership and help us level up. You'll be the primary point of accountability for what your team ships, the standards you hold, and the engineers you grow. What you'll do - Line-manage a small team of engineers, run great 1:1s, give honest feedback, build real development pathways, and address underperformance promptly and constructively - Recruit, retain, and grow engineers who bring genuine craft to their work - Spend most of your time shipping production code in our stack - Set technical direction and architectural standards, push back when warranted, and bring others along - Take strong ownership of your team's commitments, incidents, blockers, and outcomes - Partner closely with Product Managers: give honest estimates, communicate clearly, and ship when you said you would - Follow our CI/CD, testing, and deployment processes so every release goes smoothly - Monitor product health and respond when something needs attention Qualifications - 7+ years of professional software engineering experience - Strong full-stack instincts with deep backend and infrastructure experience at a senior level - Fluency (or close to it) in our stack: HTML5/CSS, React, TypeScript, Node, Postgres, Docker, AWS or GCP, Terraform - Clear interest in technical leadership, with some experience leading or mentoring engineers - A track record of shipping software your team is proud of in a strong CI/CD environment - Strong people leadership instincts — you develop others, give honest feedback, and hold high standards without losing warmth - Personal commitment to CGA's standards: unlocking potential together, rethinking and rebuilding, and raising the bar to compound impact Requirements - Experience leading a team of 3–5 engineers in a product engineering environment - Experience building education or other consumer-facing products with a global user base - Comfort running production systems across multiple regions and time zones Benefits - Every family that chooses CGA is trusting us with something irreplaceable. - Engineering owns the platforms that make CGA possible, what your team builds reaches students and families around the world, every day. - If you want to do the best engineering work of your career while helping students unlock extraordinary futures, we'd love to hear from you.
