Role Description We are seeking a highly capable and hands-on Accountant to take ownership of the company’s finance function. This role is responsible for building and maintaining accurate internal management accounts up to trial balance, while also providing commercial insight, operational analysis, and performance-driven recommendations. While bookkeeping and data integrity form a critical foundation of the role, the primary focus is on understanding the numbers, analysing performance, and driving improvement across the business. You will work directly with the owner, a Chartered Accountant and senior management consultant, gaining exposure to commercial decision-making, business strategy, and consulting-style projects. There is genuine scope for the role to grow into broader operations and commercial management, for a candidate who demonstrates ownership, initiative, and the ability to translate analysis into action. This is not a passive reporting role. It is suited to someone who wants to build, understand, and improve a business from the inside out. This role requires someone comfortable operating at both detailed and commercial levels. Candidates seeking a purely senior, hands-off, or review-only position should not apply. Key Responsibilities: - Maintain daily bookkeeping records and perform account reconciliations - Manage payroll processes, GST compliance, and statutory reporting requirements - Prepare management reports, financial summaries, and analyses to inform decision-making - Handle invoicing, petty cash, and all other day-to-day finance operations - Execute ad-hoc finance and administrative tasks as required - Ensure accurate and timely recording in accounting software (MYOB, Xero; client transitioning to Xero) - Lead small finance-related projects independently to improve processes or implement new tools - Identify opportunities to streamline operations and improve reporting efficiency Qualifications - Minimum 5 years of accounting and finance experience, with at least 3 years in Australian accounting and taxation - Strong knowledge of payroll, GST, and statutory reporting requirements - Proficiency with accounting software (MYOB, Xero; familiarity with Zero is a plus) - Comfortable managing all aspects of finance independently, from operational to strategic - AI-savvy and open to leveraging automation tools to improve efficiency Personal Attributes - Highly organized, proactive, and self-motivated - Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills - Flexible and willing to manage both senior-level responsibilities and operational tasks - Flexibility in work hours and location, with a focus on managing energy rather than time Benefits - Access to online learning platforms and a budget for professional development - A collaborative, no-silos environment, encouraging learning and growth across teams - A dynamic social culture with team lunches, social events, and opportunities for creative input - Health insurance - Leave Benefits - 13th Month Salary
