Title: Actuarial Associate (Charlotte, NC (Hybrid) or Remote) Location: North Carolina Job Description: Where you’ll work: Our flexible, hybrid work model offers the option to work remotely or in the office. How you’ll contribute: As an Actuarial Associate, you’ll be responsible for deliverables related to our variable annuities and flagship registered-index-linked annuity product, Shield. This position supports the Liability Analysis and Services team and is responsible for production and analysis that informs hedging-related reporting, attribution, and strategy. In this role, you’ll get to: - Own the monthly production of asset results for variable annuities and Shield products in the PathWise environment; support the production of attribution results, sensitivity grids, and ad hoc runs. - Conduct hedging analysis, including sensitivity testing, attribution, and forward-looking estimation for variable annuities and our flagship registered-index-linked annuity product, Shield. - Identify, measure, and propose solutions to enhance hedge strategy; review hedge performance. - Develop deep expertise in our asset and liability models; perform model updates, testing, review, and investigation as needed. - Analyze drivers of results and communicate insights to management. - Create and improve analytical tools and processes to enhance efficiency. - Coordinate with stakeholders to maintain consistency in production processes and deliverable schedules, assumptions, and modeling methodologies; stay up to date on regulatory and reporting changes. - Partner with the model development team to request, document, and approve model changes and to improve processes that enhance efficiency. - Work with the Leader of Hedging Liability Analysis to prioritize, plan, and execute projects. We’re looking for people who have: - Bachelor’s degree in mathematics, Actuarial Science, Statistics, Economics, Computer Science or Finance. - Recently credentialed ASA or actively pursuing ASA completion. - 3 years of actuarial experience preferred. - Variable Annuity and RILA product knowledge preferred. - Asset modeling experience preferred. - Computing and programming skills; Python preferred. - Experience with SQL database queries preferred. - Experience with actuarial modeling software; PathWise preferred. - Proficiency in MS Office (Excel, Word, and PowerPoint). - Project management skills; detail- and process-oriented. - Effective written and verbal communication skills. - Conceptual and analytical skills to develop solutions to complex problems. - Ability to adapt to changing business priorities and deadlines. Role Description The Reserving Actuarial Analyst evaluates and monitors loss reserves across multiple lines of business to ensure accurate, reliable financial results. They combine technical reserving expertise with business insight to support quarterly reserve reviews, profit share analyses, and financial reporting. This role partners closely with finance, claims, engineering, and underwriting teams to translate emerging loss trends into actionable insights that guide strategic decision-making. Responsibilities - Perform quarterly reserve analyses and profit share analyses using standard actuarial methodologies to support accurate booked reserves and financial reporting. - Extract, transform, and analyze large datasets to build and maintain reserving exhibits, reserve triangles, and monitoring dashboards. - Partner with Claims, Finance, Underwriting, and other teams to understand loss drivers, identify emerging trends, and assess their impact on reserves. - Assist in refining reserving methodologies, assumptions, and governance processes to strengthen consistency, transparency, and control. - Prepare clear actuarial reports and presentations for senior management, regulators, and external stakeholders, highlighting key findings and recommendations. - Contribute to process improvements and automation initiatives that make reserving analyses more efficient, repeatable, and scalable. Qualifications - 4+ years of P&C actuarial experience, with direct or strong exposure to reserving. - Progress toward ACAS/FCAS through successful completion of multiple actuarial exams and an interest in continuing that journey. - Bachelor’s degree in actuarial science, mathematics, computer science, statistics, or a related quantitative field. - Strong Excel experience for building and maintaining actuarial models, summaries, and analyses. - Experience working with large datasets; familiarity with tools such as SQL, R, or Python to manipulate and analyze data. - Experience working in a fast-paced environment, with a track record of managing multiple projects and meeting target dates without sacrificing quality. - Clear and concise communication skills, including experience presenting technical results to both actuarial and non-actuarial audiences. - High attention to detail, with a focus on accuracy, documentation, and reproducibility of analyses. Bonus Points - Direct reserving experience across multiple P&C lines or specialty lines such as cyber or executive risks. - Experience working in an insurance, reinsurance, or insurtech environment with cross-functional partners in finance, claims, underwriting, or data engineering. - Hands-on experience automating actuarial workflows or building reserving tools using SQL, R, Python, or similar technologies. - Familiarity with regulatory and financial reporting requirements related to P&C loss reserves (e.g., Statement of Actuarial Opinion support). Compensation Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The US base salary for this position ranges from $99,000/year in our lowest geographic market up to $150,000/year in our highest geographic market.
