Title: Associate Attorney Location: Camarillo, CA Job Description: Position:Temporary Associate Attorney Compensation: $50–$55/hour Location: Camarillo, California Edsall Law is seeking a California-licensed Attorney to provide maternity leave coverage for a full-time Associate Attorney. This role is responsible for supporting an established caseload focused primarily on estate planning, trust administration, and probate matters. The ideal candidate brings strong legal fundamentals, professionalism, and the ability to step into an active practice with efficiency and care. This is a temporary opportunity expected to last approximately 4–5 months, with a preferred start date in mid-July or early August 2026. The firm offers a flexible, hybrid work environment with an opportunity for pre-leave training and transition support. What You’ll Do: - Manage a caseload focused on estate planning, trust administration, and probate matters - Draft, review, and revise legal documents including wills, trusts, and related filings - Meet with clients to gather information, provide updates, and guide them through legal processes - Communicate with courts, beneficiaries, and other stakeholders as needed - Maintain organized case files and ensure timely handling of all matters - Collaborate with internal staff to ensure high-quality client service and workflow efficiency - Support post-death administration matters, including trust administration and probate proceedings - Participate in onboarding and transition training with the current attorney prior to leave What You’ll Need to Succeed: - Active California Bar license (required) - Strong legal writing, communication, and client-facing skills - Ability to manage multiple matters with strong attention to detail and deadlines - Professionalism, reliability, and a strong work ethic - Experience in estate planning, probate, or trust administration preferred but not required - Ability to quickly learn processes and step into an active caseload Work Environment & Schedule: - Hybrid work model with a combination of in-office and remote work - In-office presence required for collaboration and client meetings - Flexible scheduling options (e.g., 3–4 days per week) based on workload - 30–40 hours per week expected - Opportunity for overlap and training prior to the attorney’s leave What Edsall Law Offers You: - Flexible schedule within a professional, client-focused environment - Supportive transition and onboarding process - Opportunity to gain hands-on experience in estate planning and probate - Short-term engagement with meaningful, high-impact legal work Compensation: $50–$55/hour Compensation will be determined by a number of factors including experience. FIRE operates on a hybrid work schedule that allows for a mix of in-the-office and remote work days for eligible employees. Fully remote work will not be considered for this position. The Foundation for Individual Rights and Expression’s mission is to defend and sustain the individual rights of all Americans to free speech and free thought — the most essential qualities of liberty. FIRE educates Americans about the importance of these inalienable rights, promotes a culture of respect for these rights, and provides the means to preserve them. The Lead Counsel, Tech Policy and Free Expression reports directly to FIRE’s Legislative and Policy Director and plays a central role in advancing the organization’s mission to protect freedom of speech involving AI, social media, and other emerging technologies. FIRE uses legislative advocacy, public commentary, research, and litigation to advocate and create conditions for government policymakers to protect the exercise of First Amendment rights. This position will build and coordinate FIRE’s strategy to use these tools to protect free speech facilitated by new technologies; develop and execute legislative advocacy strategies to promote speech-protective legislation and fight censorial legislation; and help design and execute strategies to build new narratives around the importance of free speech involving new technologies. Working with our Litigation department, this position will also help to further the organization’s litigation strategy to secure landmark legal rulings protecting the right to free speech involving AI and social media platforms. This position will also perform other support functions for the day-to-day operation of FIRE and will frequently collaborate with other staff members and departments on general duties and specialized projects. This position involves a moderate amount of travel. Occasional work on weekends and evenings should be expected. The expected start date for this position is as soon as possible. Qualifications A successful candidate will be passionate about expressive rights and excited to lead a policy program to protect their exercise across new technological platforms. The candidate must be a self-starter and have the ability to manage work across multiple departments to drive projects forward.
