Job Description
Data Engineer (Forward Deployed Engineer)
Rackspace Technology
Role Description Rackspace is looking for a Data Engineer (Forward Deployed Engineer) to serve as the hands-on technical owner of enterprise-scale data migration, consolidation, and AI-enablement engagements. You will be embedded with Global Enterprise clients at the most critical points of their technology transformation — designing and building production-grade solutions that span cloud data architecture, intelligent data pipelines, and Palantir-powered operational applications. You will operate at the intersection of deep data engineering, applied AI, and executive stakeholder management. This is not a back-office role: you own delivery outcomes, shape client strategy, and translate Palantir Foundry and AIP capabilities into differentiated, client-specific solutions that accelerate ROI across 12–24 month programs. Work location: This role can be worked remotely in Canada in the provinces of Ontario, British Columbia, and Alberta only. Key Responsibilities - Palantir Platform Delivery - Design and implement enterprise solutions on Palantir Foundry — including Pipeline Builder, Code Workbook, Contour, and Workshop — tailored to client data models and operational workflows. - Build and manage ontology layers that translate raw ERP and operational data (Customer, Order, Asset, Invoice, Vendor, Product) into business-consumable semantic objects with full lineage. - Deploy Palantir AIP-powered agents and LLM workflows for automated data validation, schema inference, anomaly detection, and transformation logic generation. - Develop low-code operational applications in Palantir Workshop and deliver real-time migration control centers, data quality dashboards, and self-service stewardship interfaces. - Migration Execution & Cloud Architecture - Lead end-to-end delivery of enterprise data migrations from legacy systems (SAP ECC, Oracle, Epic ERP, custom on-premise) to cloud-native target platforms on AWS or Azure. - Design cloud landing zones, data governance frameworks, and system rationalization strategies with migration compliance controls, automated rollback procedures, and operational readiness gates. - Own full technical accountability for 12–18+ month migration roadmaps across multiple parallel workstreams in regulated and high-complexity environments. - Data Pipeline Engineering & ETL/ELT - Build production-grade data connectors to SAP (RFC, IDoc, BAPI, OData), Oracle (AQ, GoldenGate), and SQL/NoSQL sources with CDC and incremental loading capabilities. - Engineer scalable ETL/ELT pipelines capable of processing 100M+ to billions of records with multi-layer validation, reconciliation, and automated exception handling. - Integrate LLM-driven transformation logic into pipeline workflows for intelligent mapping, deduplication, and data enrichment at scale. - Multi-System Consolidation & Master Data Management - Lead consolidation of 5–15+ fragmented ERP instances into unified master data models, resolving entity resolution challenges across customer, product, vendor, and financial hierarchies. - Establish golden record frameworks, survivorship rules, data quality scorecards, and post-migration stewardship workflows. - Deliver cross-system data lineage tracking and row/column-level security for regulated workloads (HIPAA, GDPR, SOC 2). - Client Engagement & Advisory - Serve as primary technical advisor to C-suite, enterprise architecture teams, and cross-functional stakeholders across all engagement phases — from discovery through go-live. - Deploy discovery agents to analyze legacy data estates; facilitate solution design workshops; deliver executive briefings, go/no-go readiness assessments, and prioritized modernization roadmaps. - Navigate organizational complexity, competing priorities, and enterprise change management dynamics to maintain momentum across multi-workstream programs. - Knowledge Transfer & IP Development - Build reusable Palantir accelerators, migration playbooks, and reference architectures that scale across Rackspace delivery engagements. - Lead client team enablement for post-migration platform ownership; mentor junior engineers and foster a culture of knowledge sharing. - Feed field insights back into internal product and sales engineering teams to advance delivery methodology and platform capabilities. Qualifications - 7–10+ years of progressive enterprise data engineering, data migration, or large-scale system integration experience in complex multi-platform environments. - 3–5+ years directly leading end-to-end data migration or multi-system consolidation programs for Global Enterprises, with full ownership of technical delivery and client outcomes. - Proven hands-on experience with Palantir Foundry — Pipeline Builder, Ontology, Contour, Code Workbook, and Workshop — in a production delivery context. - Demonstrated client-facing experience advising C-level executives, enterprise architecture teams, and cross-functional business stakeholders as a trusted technical partner. - Proven delivery complexity: at least 3+ heterogeneous source systems, 100M+ records, complex master data harmonization, and multi-phase cutover execution. - Validated industry depth in at least two of: Healthcare, Financial Services, Manufacturing, Energy & Utilities, Retail, or Public Sector. Requirements - Advanced proficiency in Python and SQL; working experience in PySpark and TypeScript/JavaScript for pipeline and SDK development. - Hands-on expertise with modern ETL/ELT platforms: AWS Glue, Azure Data Factory, Informatica, Talend, Matillion, or Fivetran. - Strong working knowledge of at least one major cloud provider (AWS or Azure) — core infrastructure, managed data services, IAM, networking, and security configurations. - Experience with enterprise data warehouse and lakehouse platforms: Snowflake, Databricks, BigQuery, Redshift, Synapse Analytics, or Delta Lake. - Practical experience integrating LLMs or AI-driven tooling into data transformation, schema inference, or mapping workflows (OpenAI, Anthropic, AWS Bedrock, Azure OpenAI). - Familiarity with ontology frameworks (RDF, OWL) or knowledge graph platforms (Neo4j, Stardog, Palantir Ontology). - Active Palantir certification in at least one of the following tracks is required at time of hire or within 90 days of joining: - Palantir Foundry Data Engineer - Palantir Foundry Ontologist - Palantir AIP Application Developer - Palantir Foundry Platform Administrator Preferred Qualifications - AWS Certified Solutions Architect (Associate or Professional) or AWS Certified Data Engineer — Associate. - Microsoft Certified: Azure Data Engineer Associate (DP-203) or Azure Solutions Architect Expert (AZ-305). - Additional cloud data credentials (Snowflake SnowPro Core, Databricks Certified Associate Developer) a plus. - Deep knowledge of real-time event streaming platforms: Apache Kafka, AWS Kinesis, Azure Event Hubs. - Hands-on expertise with enterprise MDM platforms: Informatica MDM, SAP Master Data Governance, Profisee, or Reltio. - Strong command of CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure-as-code tooling: Terraform, Azure DevOps, GitLab CI, Jenkins, ArgoCD. - Proficiency in API development and microservices architecture, including REST, GraphQL, and service mesh patterns. - Experience with data observability, cataloging, and lineage platforms: Monte Carlo, Collibra, Alation, or Apache Atlas. - Working understanding of financial close processes, supply chain operations, revenue cycle management, or procurement workflows. - Familiarity with industry data standards: HL7/FHIR (Healthcare), SWIFT/XBRL (Financial Services), EDI (Manufacturing/Retail). - Comprehensive understanding of data security and regulatory compliance frameworks: GDPR, HIPAA, SOC 2, CCPA, FedRAMP. - Experience with process mining tools (Celonis, UiPath Process Mining) a plus. - SAP Certified Technology Associate or Professional (SAP BTP, SAP Data Services, SAP Integration Suite). - CDMP (Certified Data Management Professional) or DAMA-DMBOK practitioner credentials. - Additional Palantir certifications across multiple tracks are strongly preferred.
