Job Description
Senior Manager, OpenShell Engineering
NVIDIA
Role Description As a manager for OpenShell engineering, you will guide a team that integrates recent progress in agentic systems into the runtime, tools, and workflows trusted by enterprise developers. Your responsibility is to define direction, improve technical standards, and ensure the team consistently transforms promising methods from academia, industry, and NVIDIA research into useful OpenShell capabilities. You will guide the team on what to examine, how to confirm its value, and when to integrate the top concepts into the product. What You’ll Be Doing: - Lead and grow a team that is passionate about agentic systems and OpenShell runtime capabilities. - Define the team's technical strategy, research agenda, and product-facing priorities in partnership with engineering, product, development, research, solutions, and developer-facing teams. - Track major developments in agent research, internal NVIDIA work, publicly available projects, and industry systems, then help the team identify which ideas matter for OpenShell. - Guide the team in reproducing, adapting, benchmarking, and productizing promising research methods. - Ensure the team develops high-quality POCs, evaluation harnesses, red-team workflows, reference implementations, and product-ready solutions. - Build operating rhythms for research review, prioritization, technical decision-making, experimentation, and roadmap influence. - Partner with product and engineering leaders to move validated ideas into shipped OpenShell capabilities. - Contribute to outlining what secure, scalable, production-quality agent runtime infrastructure entails for enterprise builders. - Mentor team members on independent technical investigation, communication, engineering rigor, product sense, and cross-functional collaboration. - Hire, mentor, and develop a team with strong research engineering instincts and a bias toward shipping. Qualifications - MS or PhD in Computer Science, Physics, or a related technical field, or equivalent experience. - 8+ overall years of relevant software development experience. - 4+ years of leadership and management experience. - Experience leading research engineering, applied science, ML engineering, AI infrastructure, developer tooling, or advanced product engineering teams. - Strong technical judgment across LLMs, agentic systems, evaluation, runtime infrastructure, inference systems, or AI safety/security. - Track record turning research or emerging technical methods into products, platforms, tools, benchmarks, or production systems at scale. - Ability to set a clear technical direction in ambiguous, fast-paced areas. - Strong product sense and ability to connect research opportunities to customer needs, developer workflows, and product strategy. - Experience mentoring engineers or researchers who operate across research, product, and production engineering boundaries. - Excellent communication skills, including the ability to synthesize complex technical topics and align collaborators around a clear point of view along with strong execution instincts: able to balance exploration with delivery, and ensure research work results in practical product impact. Requirements - Your base salary will be determined based on your location, experience, and the pay of employees in similar positions. The base salary range is 272,000 USD - 431,250 USD. - You will also be eligible for equity and benefits. - Applications for this job will be accepted at least until May 18, 2026. - This posting is for an existing vacancy. - NVIDIA uses AI tools in its recruiting processes. Company Description NVIDIA has been transforming computer graphics, PC gaming, and accelerated computing for more than 25 years. It’s a unique legacy of innovation that’s fueled by great technology—and amazing people. Today, we’re tapping into the unlimited potential of AI to define the next era of computing. - NVIDIA is committed to fostering a diverse work environment and proud to be an equal opportunity employer. - We do not discriminate on the basis of race, religion, color, national origin, gender, gender expression, sexual orientation, age, marital status, veteran status, disability status or any other characteristic protected by law.
