Role Description Mercy Ships is seeking an Infrastructure Project Manager to oversee the planning, execution, and finalization of infrastructure and renovation projects to support Mercy Ships’ field services in Africa. Reporting to the Director of Fleet Projects within the Global Infrastructure Department, the IPM will ensure projects are completed within scope, on time, and within budget, while maintaining the highest quality standards. This role involves coordinating with architects, engineers, contractors, and stakeholders, as well as frequent travel (up to 50%) – primarily to project sites across Africa. The position requires a combination of remote work and on-site project management, including site inspections in varied environments and weather conditions. Candidates must be comfortable with extended periods of walking, climbing, and standing as part of construction oversight. How You’ll Contribute - Project Management - Oversee and manage infrastructure construction and renovation projects, including planning, scheduling, and execution. - Ensure coordination between architects, engineers, contractors, and other stakeholders to finalize designs, construction documents, bill of quantities (BoQs), and project budgets. - Establish project timelines, milestones, and deliverables, ensuring all contractors and consultants adhere to agreed-upon schedules. - Set targets, objectives, and responsibilities for all supervised staff. - Direct and oversee the work of project team members, including contractors, ensuring all deliverables meet the required quality standards. - Regularly review project timelines, budgets, labor allocation, risks, and plans to ensure work stays on track. - Evaluate and approve Change Orders or requests for changes to the project scope or budget. - Manage relationships with local authorities, hospital staff, and contractors to facilitate smooth project execution. - Ensure high-quality project delivery within contract timescales. - Travel to project sites in Africa and other locations to oversee progress, resolve issues, and ensure compliance with project requirements. - Monitoring & Evaluation - Verify that completed work aligns with approved drawings and specifications. - Conduct site inspections and oversee construction administration to ensure quality standards are met. - Review site progress reports and photographs to monitor quality and compliance. - Provide regular updates to the Director of Fleet Projects and other stakeholders. - Budget Management - Develop and manage project budgets, ensuring projects are delivered within approved financial constraints. - Provide regular financial updates to stakeholders. - Identify opportunities for cost savings and resource optimization. - Safety and Risk Mitigation - Identify and manage project dependencies and critical paths. - Develop and implement risk mitigation strategies to address potential project challenges. - Monitor and manage project risks and issues, ensuring timely resolution. - Ensure compliance with safety, quality, and regulatory standards, including legal regulations and building codes. - Promote a culture of safety on all project sites and ensure contractors adhere to safety protocols. Requirements - A Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Architecture, or a related field is preferred, or a combination of education and substantial relevant experience. - Minimum of 5-10 years of experience in construction project management or a similar field. - Proven track record of managing infrastructure projects from initiation to completion, with a strong preference for experience building in Africa or similar international, resource-constrained environments. - PMP (Project Management Professional), CCM (Certified Construction Manager), or other relevant certifications preferred. - OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration) certification is a plus. - Successful completion of Mercy Ships Entry Training will be required within the first year. Benefits - Compensation Range for This Position Is $85,000 - $89,400. - This is a REMOTE opportunity that requires up to 50% international travel for up to 4 weeks at a time.
