Role Description This role is for a non-standard medical and dental claims data entry position involves manually inputting, reviewing, and correcting complex healthcare claim information into electronic systems, focusing on fields not covered by automated systems. This role will require handling nuanced information, such as care received internationally, workers' compensation, detailed coding review, and high attention to detail combined with mathematical proficiency to calculate co-insurance, deductibles, negotiated fee schedules, and to reconcile payment discrepancies. Location: Remote Grade: H1 Process: BCBSNJ Commercial – Data Entry Designation: Data Entry Pay rate: $16/hr Qualifications - 1+ years of healthcare claims experience, medical billing, or coding Requirements - High accuracy and typing speed of 10,000+ keystrokes per hour - Strong ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide rapidly and accurately - Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-volume environment Role & Responsibilities - Data Entry and Processing: Accurately enter claims, patient demographics, diagnosis codes (ICD-10-CM), and billing codes from paper or electronic sources into processing platforms and systems. - Mathematical Calculation & Verification: Perform calculations to determine accurate payment amounts, including subtracting patient copays and deductibles from total allowable charges, and calculating percentage-based co-insurance. - Review and Correction: Analyze claims for missing or incorrect data (e.g., patient name, date of birth, insurance ID) and correct discrepancies before submission and/or send for further research. - Written Communication: Coordinate with physicians, administrative teams, and insurance providers to resolve missing data or billing discrepancies. - Compliance: Adhere strictly to HIPAA and other health regulations, maintaining confidentiality of sensitive patient information. HSD’s Data, Performance, and Evaluation (DPE) Team seeks a temporary Senior Data Analyst to support the City’s response to addressing homelessness. We’re looking for someone who can apply race and social justice principles to lead the department's: - Data: Lead cross-system data standards and improvements across homelessness systems—HMIS, GIS, the Navigation App—and maintain high-quality dashboards, automate key workflows, and ensure accurate, equitable, and transparent data for decision-making. - Performance: Ensure development of meaningful performance measures for shelter surge efforts and support staff and partners in using shared tools and standards, ensuring data reflects real service conditions. - Evaluation: Scope and deliver complex analyses using deep homelessness systems expertise and provide clear, actionable insights for leadership and City partners with documented, reproducible methods and responsible interpretation guidance. This position will report to the Data and Performance Manager and will work alongside other Senior Data Analysts and a range of other department personnel supporting homelessness efforts. Qualifications - Requires three years of experience in systems, operations, procedures, research or analysis and a Bachelor's degree in business or public administration, finance, computer science or a related field (or a combination of education, training or experience that provides an equivalent background required to perform the work of the class). - OR: An equivalent combination of education and experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the position duties. - Desired Qualifications: - Experience in homelessness response processes and systems such as HMIS. - Navigating complex, matrixed systems by coordinating with internal and cross-department teams as well as external partners. - Using a range of data tools and technology (Power Automate, Power BI/Tableau, and Excel). - Applying Results-Based Accountability (RBA) frameworks. - Working with large datasets and ensuring data quality. - Connecting and maintaining data in business intelligence tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI) in a production environment. - Creating clear documentation and supporting user training on data systems.
