Job Requirements

  • 2-4 years of experience in real estate accounting, property accounting, lease accounting, fund accounting, real estate finance, asset management, property management, or CRE operations
  • Experience working with leases, rent rolls, financial statements, budgets, recoveries, CAM reconciliations, operating statements, or other property-level financial data
  • Experience in accounting, property accounting, lease accounting, real estate finance, asset management, or CRE operations roles involving lease and/or property-level financial data — strong advantage

Role Description We’re seeking a Senior Manager, Accounting and Procurement, who will be responsible for maintaining the integrity of the general ledger, ensuring SOX compliance, managing the accounting close and consolidation process, reconciling accounts, A/R & revenue accounting and managing the procurement function. This individual will serve as an integral business partner to the senior leadership team and play an active and critical role in leading and building the General Accounting team. This person will collaborate with all levels of management, internal stakeholders, external consultants, other vendors, and internal and external auditors. The ideal candidate has recent public company experience in the biotech or pharma industry and experience in accounting for collaboration arrangements and public accounting. This role reports to the Senior Director, Accounting Operations. This is a remote position based in California and will require occasional travel to our Emeryville headquarters (approximately 2-3 times per year). This is a full-time position, and the office hours are within 8am-5pm PT. What You’ll Do - Provide direct oversight and management of accounting team, including reviewing deliverables such as journal entries and account reconciliations, training, and mentoring team members. - Manage procurement function to ensure compliance with procurement-related policies and SOX controls, optimize process efficiency by collaborating with requestors and buyers, and identify and implement cost-saving opportunities. - Establish and maintain processes to account for revenue and cost sharing with collaboration partners. - Work closely with finance and business partners to ensure that collaboration agreements are appropriately accounted for under US GAAP (e.g. ASC 606); Research complex accounting issues and implement procedures to ensure that transactions are properly recorded under US GAAP. - Prepare and review journal entries and account reconciliations for areas of assigned responsibility. - Organize and manage monthly, quarterly and annual close procedures and overall execution of accounting and finance protocols, strategy, and timelines to ensure a timely close while maintaining accuracy and adherence to SOX internal control standards. - Review contracts including commercial licensing and service contracts, as well as purchases of goods and services, for accounting implications and prepare contract summaries for relevant accounting considerations. - Key point of contact for accounting-related matters, including preparing and presenting financial results to internal stakeholders. - Collaborate with business partners in FP&A, operating departments and Accounts Payable to ensure that purchase orders and invoices are assigned to the appropriate departments/projects. - Recommend and implement best practices regarding accounting policies and procedures as well as systems and processes to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the accounting close and other Finance operations. - Prepare and review workpapers and ensure PBC schedules are prepared accurately and timely. - Other duties as required. Qualifications - BA/BS in Finance or Accounting or equivalent work experience. - 8+ years of experience in a senior finance/accounting position in a growing company from a relevant industry (biotech, life sciences). - Prior experience in a biotech or life sciences company functioning in a similar role, including managing a team of direct reports. - Experience in managing the financial operations and reporting of a biotech or pharmaceutical company. - Familiarity with the compliance requirements of a public company. - Detailed knowledge of US GAAP and SOX Sarbanes-Oxley Act, and an ability to drive the Company’s compliance with all relevant accounting and certification requirements. - Experience with procurement policies, processes, systems, and related controls. - Advanced Excel skills with the ability to analyze large amounts of data and maintain complex financial models; demonstrated proficiency with advanced functions. - Ability to convey financial performance to audiences at different levels in the organization. - Excellent organizational, communication, documentation, modeling and analysis skills, with high attention to detail and focus on accuracy and accountability. - Track record of collaboration, stakeholder relationship management, and influencing key decision-makers. - Demonstrated decision-making ability, experience in managing budgets, and proven resource management skills. - Strong analytical and communication skills.
