The types of exciters being replaced include potential source, bus fed, brushless, DC rotating, and partial / full compound. The replacement excitation system sizes range from 35A voltage regulators to 8000A full static multi-bridges. Strong technical management and customer communication skills are essential. An understanding of power electronics and generator applications is desirable. Responsible for the technical execution of the system engineering, hardware generation, and software generation from order hand-off until the completion of commissioning. This includes providing technical support to the commissioning team. - Review project information to understand scope, including schedules, process flows, manuals, commercial documentation, and engineering specs. - Apply electrical and mechanical engineering principles to analyze, design, test, and troubleshoot industrial process control systems, while minimizing cost. - Ensure all products meet quality control standards. - Ability to design and understand technical plans, blueprints, drawings, and models. - Knowledge of how various systems interact with one another and how changes in operations, the environment, and other conditions will affect the process. - As part of a team, provide customers with technical direction and support. - Support site commissioning and customer communication both internal and external. - Troubleshoot complex mechanical, electrical, control, and process issues on live systems as well as simulations. - Design control systems for interface to existing unit operations equipment, and evaluate all system components, requirements, and interactions. - Program/configure control system software in a visual programming language. - Responsible to coordinate and lead technical design reviews of projects and to update and archive all required documentation. - Demonstrated expertise in technical problem resolution especially with respect to power plant and other industrial operations. - Support all project documentation creation as part of a well-established process as well as custom needs. - Ensure project execution is carried out safely, to comply with company Health, Safety and Environmental (HSE) guidelines and procedures. - Drive customer satisfaction via commitment to quality. - Must work well both independently and in a team environment. - Support sales activities to ensure accurate customer proposals and other commercial needs. - Interface with management, project managers, colleagues, and other engineers to keep stakeholders informed of project risks during execution. - Accountable for project deliverables, customer CTQ (critical to quality) compliance, and on-time schedule performance. - Frequently interact with customers and suppliers. - Support streamlining of engineering processes and business growth. Qualifications - Bachelor’s Degree in a “STEM” major (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) from an accredited college or university. - Minimum 1 year of engineering experience with excitation or power electronics hardware and/or software control systems. - Willing to relocate to the Longmont/Denver, CO area. - Travel up to 25% of the time, as required. Requirements - Familiarity with various control systems from different manufacturers – GE, Emerson, ABB, Rockwell, Siemens, Brush, Reivax, etc. - Knowledge and experience with electrical and mechanical control systems. - Ability to support multiple projects simultaneously. - A flexible mind-set – willing and interested to learn about new systems and processes. - Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving ability and adept at communicating with several levels of the organization. - Strong influence, facilitation, and interpersonal skills. - Strong process discipline with sound analytical and statistical skills. - Strong customer service mind-set.
