Role Description The Commissioning Specialist supports electrical and mechanical commissioning and retro-commissioning projects as well as trade related regulatory audits governed by NFPA and NEC through onsite field execution, test support, system observation, documentation, and reporting. This role assists in validating that building systems and equipment are installed, started, and operating in accordance with design intent, project requirements, regulatory governance, and operational expectations. The Electromechanical Commissioning Specialist works closely with commissioning engineers, contractors, vendors, client representatives, and project teams to collect field data, document deficiencies, support testing activities, and maintain accurate project records. This role requires strong technical aptitude in electrical and/or mechanical building systems, the ability to interpret drawings and field conditions, and the ability to work safely and effectively in active construction and operating environments. Success in this role requires attention to detail, sound judgment, strong communication, and the ability to travel frequently in support of project execution. Qualifications - Associate degree, technical certificate, completed apprenticeship, military technical training, or an equivalent combination of formal education and progressive field experience in HVAC, electrical, controls, mechanical, or industrial systems. - Minimum required experience: 3 years. - Preferred experience: 5–10 years of progressively responsible field and/or commissioning-related experience. - Valid driver’s license required, with a clean driving record and no significant MVA points or violations. - Preferred certification: Industry-recognized certifications, active pursuit of certification, or equivalent professional credentialing such as CxA, CCP, BCxP, CEM, NICET, NFPA-related certifications, or active trade licensure relevant to the supported discipline. Requirements - Operates, observes, evaluates, and documents testing of emergency generators, UPS systems, PDUs, panel boards, switchboards, transformers, electrical meters, VFDs, lighting control systems, and related components. - Interprets, analyzes, and validates electrical drawings and schematics to verify field conditions, identify equipment, and support commissioning activities and system verification. - Documents, evaluates, and validates testing outcomes in approved commissioning platforms such as CxAlly, Facility Grid, or other company-approved tools. - Operates, observes, evaluates, and documents testing of RTUs, chillers, AHUs, CRACs, CRAHs, VRF and split systems, hydronic and DX systems, pumps, water heaters, heating systems, and related components. - Interprets, analyzes, and validates mechanical drawings and schematics to verify field conditions, identify equipment, and support commissioning activities and system verification. - Documents, evaluates, and validates testing outcomes in approved commissioning platforms such as CxAlly, Facility Grid, or other company-approved tools. - Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and standard operating procedures. - Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from clients, peers, contractors, and technical field staff. - Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. - Ability to interpret an extensive variety of instructions and deal with several abstract and concrete variables. - Understanding of construction materials and methods, system performance validation, and industry standards relevant to commissioning work. - Ability to manage multiple stakeholders within the organization and business units. - Time management, active listening, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills. - Strong oral and written communication skills. - Ability to work independently, as well as in a team environment. - Ability to work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner. - Ability to successfully work from a remote location when not traveling. - Ability to meet the physical demands of the job. - Must have a cell phone and supply your own internet service.
