Job Overview: The Director, Accounting will lead core accounting operations, manage complex revenue processes, support business unit reporting, and enhance our financial infrastructure as the organization continues to scale. This role will take ownership of critical components of the month-end close while supporting automation and operational efficiency initiatives. The Director, Accounting will assist in growing revenue stream, preparing and reviewing financials for audits and enabling senior team members to focus on automation, optimization, and strategic analysis. Responsibilities: Your key responsibilities will include: - Month-End Close & Reporting - - Lead and manage month-end close activities across multiple business units and budget centers. - Prepare, review, and deliver accurate financial statements, ensuring compliance with GAAP and internal controls. - - Oversee general ledger integrity, accruals, and account reconciliation processes. - - Handle complex intercompany transactions, eliminations, and consolidated reporting. - - Produce and distribute business unit reporting packages with insights and variance analyses. - Revenue Accounting (ASC 606) - - Serve as the subject-matter expert for ASC 606 revenue recognition, including interpretation, documentation, and application of the official standard. - - Work directly with auditors, providing revenue support, memos, and financial statement disclosures. - - Manage revenue operations within Dynamics, including detailed revenue tracking at the customer and agitator level. - - Partner with stakeholders to ensure appropriate recognition, deferrals, and allocations in accordance with GAAP. - - Support automation and process improvements around revenue workflows. - Operational Accounting - - Manage payroll accounting, payroll journal entries, and related reconciliations. - - Maintain and support corporate tax compliance, including sales tax, income tax support, and external filings as needed. - - Perform complex account reconciliations, ensuring completeness and accuracy across all balance sheet accounts. - - Support business combinations, integration of acquired entities, and purchase accounting processes. - - Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure accurate accounting for rebates, incentives, and other nonstandard revenue components. - Cash Forecasting - - Develop and maintain cash management model to ensure short-term and long-term visibility as the Company scales. - - Prepare reporting for senior level leadership. - Systems, Tools & Process Improvement - - Utilize advanced Excel techniques (modeling, complex formulas, pivot tables, macros strongly preferred). - - Build dashboards, reports, and visualizations in Power BI to support management decision-making. - - Leverage Dynamics Business Central (or similar ERP) for accounting operations; lead ERP process improvements, data structuring, and reporting optimization. - - Partner with senior leadership to design automation opportunities and enable a more proactive approach to revenue and rebate management. Qualifications: To excel in this role, you should possess the following qualifications: - Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA preferred but not required. - 4–8 years of progressive accounting experience, including month-end close and financial reporting. - Strong working knowledge of ASC 606 revenue recognition, with ability to interpret the guidance beyond standard billing processes. - Experience supporting audits, including preparation of schedules and revenue documentation. - Hands-on experience with Dynamics Business Central or comparable ERP system. - Comfort operating across multiple business units or budget centers. - Strong technical accounting skills with demonstrated ability in reconciliations, GL management, and process documentation. - Advanced proficiency in Excel and practical experience with Power BI. - Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills; strong attention to detail. - Ability to manage workload independently and thrive in a fast-paced environment. - Experience preparing senior level presentations. The Accounting Specialist, AVMA PL is responsible for daily tasks assigned (as listed below) over the AVMA Professional Liability (PL) insurance lines of business. Applying principles of Accounting in order to track and analyze financial information, and to prepare financial reports. Ensure timely and accurate activity and transactions for areas assigned. Your Impact: - Processing daily workflow as assigned over the AVMA PL Accounting areas to ensure service levels and timelines are being met. Specific workflow processes may include a combination of the following: - Process daily invoice importing for assigned AVMA PL accounting lines of business. Reviewing accounts for accuracy and complete information before posting batches. Complete balancing to source documents. - Process daily cash receipt imports from various sources, including reconciling receipts from source documents/reports to bank activity, and posting to the accounts system and general ledger. - Process physical check deposit for payments mailed directly to the office. Remote check scanner will be used, detailed tracking and reconciliation to the bank and general ledger systems for accuracy. - Coordinate check requests as required from policy admin systems for carrier, customer, and/or broker payments required for your assigned areas in a timely manner. - Ongoing processing of Direct Bill commission payments owed from carriers for policies which the insureds pay to the carrier directly. Ability to reconcile detailed transactions to compare to payments received from carriers, notice discrepancies, and follow up to ensure timely payment from carriers. - Responsible for coordinating and reviewing Accounts Receivable reports for unusual or possible missing transactions, working with the Accounting Supervisor, PL to correct transactions if necessary. - Assist the Accounting Supervisor, AVMA PL with ensuring all accounting records are properly and timely recorded for Month end processing. - Record journal entries as needed relating to assigned accounts. Responsible for reconciling various general ledger accounts and investigating differences that may arise. - Prepare balance sheet reconciliations, including various bank accounts as assigned, in a timely manner.
