General Motors
• Lead enterprise environmental compliance strategy across air, water, waste, and chemical materials management, building organizational capability for long-term success and tracking performance metrics to align with GM’s regulatory obligations and business objectives. • Partner with Global and Regional teams to support GM’s Global Enterprise Environmental Management System, serving as a Subject Matter Expert across regions; develop corporate guidance, protocols, and self-assessment/validation processes to ensure compliance; and lead development and renewal of environmental permits, including application preparation, permit review, and negotiation with regulatory agencies. • Engage with stakeholders to ensure continual improvement and support of new program/project and regulatory implementation. • Develop creative solutions to complex environmental challenges and support innovation to meet GM goals and initiatives. • Partner with environmental leaders, GM stakeholders, suppliers, and agencies to foster teamwork, drive solutions, and ensure regulatory compliance; collaborate with business partners (e.g., Legal, Public Policy, Staffs), mentor and develop environmental talent, support site teams in implementing permit and regulatory requirements, and provide technical input to shape and negotiate proposed rules and regulations.
Job Requirements
- College degree with a major in engineering or related sciences with emphasis on environmental
- 5 years experience in environmental in a manufacturing or industrial related environment
- Understanding of the plant manufacturing systems including production processes, wastewater discharges, storm water management, air emissions impacts, sewer systems, chemical usage, and waste management/recycling programs, to ensure effective decision-making and regulatory compliance
- Experience and working knowledge of environmental permitting
- Proven experience leading, managing or overseeing small teams, projects and/or contracted service providers
- Must be able to travel regularly, to support plant operations, along with program and facility launch activities.
