Director of Human Resources Location: Upper Marlboro, MD Type: Full-time Workplace: hybrid Category: Human Resources Job Description: NASA Federal Credit Union is looking for a Director of Human Resources to lead the Credit Union’s talent acquisition, HR training, HRIS, and compliance strategy. This role will ensure HR operations run consistently, accurately, and in a way that reduces organizational risk. The Director of HR serves as the primary escalation point for issues in assigned areas and partners closely with HR Generalists, HR Management team, and leaders to drive fair, timely, well-documented outcomes. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: include the following with other duties as assigned. - Remains cognizant of and adheres to Credit Union policies and procedures, and regulations pertaining to the Bank Secrecy Act. - Talent Acquisition Leadership: Owns recruiting strategy, forecasting/workforce planning cadence, requisition prioritization, selection standards, and candidate experience; develop Hiring Manager capability (interviewing, selection, bias mitigation); manages external partners as needed. - Manager Development & Training: Designs and delivers a manager curriculum (new manager essentials, performance management, feedback, difficult conversations, conflict prevention, documentation basics); builds toolkits and reinforcement plans with HR Generalists; aligns training to HR trends and business goals. - Onboarding & Early Tenure Success: Builds/maintains onboarding standards (day 1/30/60/90), manager check-ins, and new hire success metrics; partners with HR staff to automate where possible. - Talent Programs: Supports internal mobility, career paths, and succession planning processes; creates practical manager guidance for growth conversations. - Job Descriptions: Owns the process of reviewing and updating job descriptions. Partners with HR Director (Employee Relations/Engagement, Compensating and Benefits) for salary information and HR staff for policy/regulatory changes. - Succession Planning: Owns the succession planning framework and cadence (e.g., annual/biannual talent reviews); defines readiness criteria and role criticality; facilitates leader calibration with HR Generalists; ensures successors have documented development plans; tracks bench strength and progress for priority roles and report outcomes to the VP/CAO. - Directs the following in partnership with the HR Management team: - HR Communication: Oversees HR communications cadence (HR News/Staff Weekly Updates pertaining to assigned areas) - People Analytics & Reporting: Produces dashboards (volume, cycle time, themes, repeat issues); provides HRIS-enabled insights to leadership while protecting confidentiality. - HR Budget: Provides budget recommendations for assigned areas. - Team Leadership: Develops staff; sets priorities, service standards, and cross-functional operating rhythms. Education and Experience: - Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience required; advanced degree or HR certification (PHR/SPHR/SHRM-CP/SCP) preferred. - 7+ years progressive HR leadership with significant experience in talent acquisition, HRIS/ATS, and compliance. - Experience with vendor selection and implementation for HRIS and ATS. - Strong judgment, confidentiality, and the ability to influence leaders in high-stakes situations. - You must reside in Maryland, Washington DC or Virginia.
