If the deadline is extended, we will update this job posting accordingly Location: Remote Responsibilities Role Overview: What You’ll Be Doing Wheels Up is looking for a versatile Data Engineer to join our growing Data Platform team. In this role, you will design, build, and operate scalable data pipelines that power analytics, reporting, and business insights. You’ll combine hands‑on data engineering with light DevOps and operational responsibilities, working within a modern cloud data platform to deliver scalable, reliable, and governed data solutions that power analytics and business insights. Your Key Responsibilities (Essential Functions) - Design, build, and maintain scalable, cloud‑native data pipelines using PySpark and Spark SQL - Develop reliable data ingestion, transformation, and orchestration workflows to support analytics and reporting needs - Modernize the data platform by migrating legacy SQL logic and stored procedures into distributed, Spark‑based pipelines - Develop automation and tooling for CI/CD automation, monitoring, alerting, and data quality checks across the data platform - Support production data operations, including troubleshooting pipeline failures, resolving bugs, and tuning performance - Manage Databricks operational responsibilities, including workspace configuration, access controls, and permissions - Collaborate cross-functionally, partnering with analytics, product, and engineering teams to deliver trusted, well‑governed data products - Contribute to platform standards and best practices around reliability, observability, cost optimization, and data governance Qualifications What You Bring to the Table: Education & Certification Requirements We’re looking for someone who has a unique mix of experience, skills, and passion for what we do: - Bachelor’s (with 4+ years relevant experience) OR Master’s (with 2+ years relevant experience). - 3+ years of hands‑on experience in data engineering, building and supporting production data pipelines - Strong proficiency in Python and SQL, with experience writing performance, maintainable code - Hands‑on experience with distributed data processing frameworks, such as Apache Spark (PySpark, Spark SQL) - Solid understanding of ETL/ELT design patterns, data modeling, cost optimization, and performance optimization - Experience working in cloud environments (Azure preferred; AWS or GCP acceptable) - Familiarity with data lake or lakehouse architecture and modern analytics platforms - Experience supporting production data systems, including troubleshooting, monitoring, and operational support - Strong communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across technical and non‑technical teams - High attention to detail, strong data intuition, and a commitment to data quality and reliability - Comfortable working in a fast‑paced environment with evolving requirements and priorities The Extras We Value (Preferred Requirements) While not mandatory, here are some additional things that would make you stand out: - Experience with Databricks and orchestration tools (Workflows, Terraform) - DevOps familiarity (CI/CD, GitHub Actions, Azure DevOps) - Databricks, Azure, or cloud certifications a plus - Python, SQL, Spark, - Hands on Experience with at least (1) Cloud service, we use Azure here at Wheels Up - Advanced level skills - Data Engineer Falin Python - Data Manipulation - Computer Science or Engineering Background Physical Requirements We want to make sure you’re fully equipped for success. Here’s a look at any physical requirements needed for this role: - Ability to sit for extended periods while working at a computer workstation - Ability to use a computer, keyboard, and mouse for prolonged periods of detailed work - Sufficient visual acuity to review complex financial statements, tax returns, and supporting documentation - Ability to speak and hear clearly for frequent meetings and calls with internal teams and external advisors - Ability to occasionally stand, walk, and move between office work areas - Ability to lift and carry light office materials (up to approximately 15 pounds) such as files or a laptop - Ability to maintain focus and accuracy during long periods of analytical, detail-oriented tasks What We Offer Salary Range & Benefits At Wheels Up, we believe in fair compensation based on experience, skills, and qualifications. The compensation for this role ranges from $140,667.00/Yr. to $150,000/Yr., depending on a variety of factors. We don’t typically start individuals at the top of the salary range; your place within the range is based on what you bring to the table. Additionally, you may be eligible for a discretionary annual incentive program, which rewards individual and organizational performance. ** Applicants must have current and ongoing authorization to work full-time in the United States without the need for present or future visa sponsorship. • Develop and deploy efficient ETL/ELT processes to extract, transform, and load data from various sources into our cloud data warehouse. • Own the implementation of data quality checks. You will identify and resolve data discrepancies (duplicates, missing values, formatting errors) before they reach downstream stakeholders. • Monitor and optimize existing data components to improve system performance, reduce latency, and ensure high system uptime. • Partner with Data Analysts and Software Engineers to understand their data requirements and build the structural solutions they need for deep-dive reporting. • Maintain clear, concise documentation for all pipelines and processes to ensure long-term transparency and maintainability across the team. • Identify and execute opportunities to automate manual data processes, increasing the speed and reliability of our data delivery.
• Design, develop, and optimize data infrastructure on Databricks. • Architect pipelines using BigQuery, Google Cloud Storage, Apache Airflow, dbt, Dataflow, and Pub/Sub. • Support the development and maintenance of data platform on GCP including data warehousing in BigQuery/Databricks. • Organize data into clear layers and domain-focused Data Marts for analytics and reporting. • Assist with Terraform-based Infrastructure as Code to provision and manage cloud resources. • Build, maintain, and improve ETL/ELT pipelines using Apache Airflow. • Develop and maintain dbt transformations in BigQuery. • Support data ingestion and processing using Google Dataflow, Apache Beam, or Pub/Sub. • Monitor scheduled jobs and troubleshoot failures. • Implement and maintain data quality checks using Great Expectations or dbt tests. • Support documentation of datasets, metadata, lineage, and audit processes. • Follow security best practices including IAM, encryption, and data handling. • Partner with Analytics, Product, and Data Science teams for data support.
