If you're looking to lead cutting-edge design initiatives and help shape the future of mission-critical infrastructure, we want to hear from you Position Summary: The Principal Mechanical Engineer will serve as a technical leader and Engineer of Record (EOR) for mechanical systems on complex data center projects. This individual will be responsible for leading design efforts, overseeing project delivery, and mentoring junior engineers. The role requires deep technical knowledge of mission-critical HVAC, cooling, and mechanical infrastructure systems, as well as a proven ability to lead multidisciplinary teams through design, coordination, and construction phases. Key Responsibilities - Serve as Engineer of Record (EOR) for mechanical design on data center projects. - Lead the design and engineering of HVAC, chilled water, and other mission-critical cooling systems. - Develop, review, and approve technical drawings, specifications, and submittals. - Coordinate with internal design teams and external stakeholders including clients, architects, and contractors. - Oversee mechanical design from concept through construction, ensuring quality, accuracy, and compliance with codes and standards. - Conduct system analyses, equipment selections, and energy efficiency evaluations. - Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior and mid-level engineers. - Manage project budgets, schedules, and deliverables to ensure on-time, high-quality outcomes. - Review and seal design documents as required under state licensure. - Support business development efforts through proposal writing, client presentations, and technical input. Qualifications - 8+ years of experience in mechanical engineering design, with at least 5 years focused on data centers or mission-critical facilities. - Master's Degree in Mechanical Engineering. - Professional Engineer (PE) license required and in good standing. - Demonstrated experience acting as Engineer of Record (EOR) for mechanical systems. - Strong leadership skills with proven experience managing and mentoring engineering teams. - In-depth knowledge of ASHRAE standards, building codes, and energy modeling principles. - Proficiency in Revit, AutoCAD, and mechanical design software (e.g., Carrier HAP, Trace 700). - Excellent communication and client-facing skills. - Experience with hyperscale or colocation data center projects. - Knowledge of sustainability and energy efficiency practices. - Familiarity with commissioning processes and field inspections. Mechanical Engineer Location: Remote (PST time zone preferred) Team: Power Systems The Impact You’ll Make: 1AP is looking for a Senior Mechanical Engineer for packaging and thermal design of high power electronics in the areas of renewable energy, energy storage and more. You will work on mechanical architecture design, enclosure design and cooling of power semiconductors (air cooled and liquid cooled) in systems ranging from a few hundred of kilowatts to megawatts, from design concept to hand off to production. Key Responsibilities: - Create structural designs for mechanical packaging and other related mechanical parts including PCBA design supports - Generate drawings and taking care of BOMs,FAIs,ECOs and MCOs. - Perform DFM/DFA analysis, both internal and with external suppliers - Work with hardware, compliance, reliability and NPI engineers to meet electrical parameter targets, compliance, quality/reliability and manufacturing requirements for the products - Analyze and design cooling solutions for power electronics devices and other power electronics elements - Perform mechanical and thermal tests in the lab to validate concepts The Skills You Bring: - Bachelor’s or higher Degree in Mechanical Engineering, or a related field - Experience with CAD systems with minimum 2+years Solidworks experience - Good knowledge of 3D modeling and generation of CAD drawings - Familiar with different design skills including plastics injection molding, sheet metal, castings, extrusion, machining and rapid prototypes. - Experience in bringing a product to mass production and support for it. - Experience in thermal design in FEA software to include conduction, convection, and fluid dynamics for both air and liquid-cooled solutions - Good knowledge of heatsinks, fans, heat exchangers (liquid cooling), cold plates design - Capable of managing suppliers, vendors, and prototyping shops - Good communication and team work skills to work in a fast paced environment.
