Description The Senior Accountant plays a key role in supporting the accounting function by contributing to the month-end close, leading technical accounting research and application of U.S. GAAP, and strengthening coverage across critical accounting areas. This role partners closely with the GL Accountant and broader team to enhance efficiency, improve financial accuracy, and reduce concentration risk, while serving as a primary resource for technical accounting matters. PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Month-End Close & Support - Execute designated components of the month-end close process - Prepare and post journal entries (accruals, adjustments, reclasses) - Prepare and maintain balance sheet reconciliations for assigned accounts - Partner with the GL Accountant to support timely and accurate close execution Reconciliation & Review - Review account reconciliations prepared by staff to ensure accuracy and completeness - Investigate and resolve discrepancies and variances - Ensure reconciling items are properly supported and cleared in a timely manner Technical Accounting & Audit - Lead technical accounting research and application of U.S. GAAP for routine and non-routine transactions - Draft accounting memos and recommend accounting positions aligned with company policy and GAAP - Serve as a primary resource for technical accounting guidance across the team - Partner with the GL Accountant to prepare audit schedules, technical analyses, and audit support requests - Proactively identify and resolve complex accounting issues, reducing reliance on leadership Cross-Functional Support & Coverage - Provide flexible support across key accounting functions, including: - Senior Accountant responsibilities - Treasurer-related accounting support - GL Accountant responsibilities (as needed) - Support continuity across critical processes such as royalties, sales tax, and inventory accounting - Build working knowledge across these areas to strengthen team coverage and support evolving business needs - Develop capabilities in royalties accounting with the opportunity to take on increased responsibility over time Process Improvement - Identify and implement improvements in inefficient or manual processes - Support enhancements to close processes and accounting workflows - Assist in documenting and standardizing accounting policies and procedures Collaboration & Team Support - Partner with the Accounting Operations Manager to support team priorities and execution - Act as a technical resource and mentor to team members - Support cross-training efforts to improve team flexibility and coverage - Collaborate with team members to ensure effective workload balance and continuity across responsibilities Success Measures - Accurate and timely completion of assigned close responsibilities - Increased technical accounting capability within the team - Reduced reliance on leadership for technical accounting decisions - Improved audit readiness and reduction in audit adjustments - Strengthened team coverage across key processes - Measurable improvements in efficiency and workload balance Requirements KNOWLEDE / SKILLS / ABILITIES / EXPERIENCE: - 5–8+ years of progressive accounting experience - Strong experience with: - Month-end close - General ledger accounting - Account reconciliations - Demonstrated experience in technical accounting research and application of U.S. GAAP - Experience supporting external audits - Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills - Advanced Excel skills; ERP experience preferred - CPA preferred but not required - Ability to independently research and resolve complex accounting issues - Strong attention to detail with a big-picture mindset - Effective communication of technical accounting concepts - Collaborative and adaptable across multiple responsibilities - Ownership mindset with a focus on team success EQUIPMENT TO BE USED - Computer, LMS platforms, content authoring software, standard office equipment. TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS - Ability to sit for extended periods and use a computer and other office equipment. WORKING CONDITIONS - Office and/or remote work environment.
