About the role Appfire is looking for a Global Payroll Lead to oversee and execute Appfire’s global payroll operations for approximately 230 employees across five countries (United States, Canada, United Kingdom, France, and Germany), with continued growth through acquisitions. You will report to the Finance Operations Manager and be a key member of the Finance team. You can choose to work remotely from anywhere in Eastern time. Your everyday tasks will include: - Oversee and review payroll processing for all current regions (US, CA, UK, FR, DE) in collaboration with ADP and international payroll providers, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance. - Manage and maintain the integration between Workday and ADP, proactively identifying and resolving issues impacting payroll processing or data accuracy. - Review and reconcile payroll outputs, ensuring accuracy of payroll reports, tax filings, and general ledger postings. - Develop and maintain comprehensive payroll policies and procedures to ensure strong internal controls and support public company readiness. - Collaborate with cross-functional teams to implement payroll processes for new acquisitions, including setup in ADP and integration with Workday. - Partner with Finance to ensure employee expense reimbursements are accurately processed through payroll when applicable and comply with company policies. - Ensure accurate reporting and compliance for stock-based compensation, coordinating with internal stakeholders and external advisors as needed. - Drive process improvements to standardize, simplify, and automate payroll-related tasks, with a focus on scalability and operational efficiency. - Manage payroll tax registrations, filings, and withholding requirements across multiple jurisdictions in coordination with ADP and external consultants. - Act as the primary point of contact for employee payroll inquiries, delivering clear and timely communication regarding payroll processes and updates. - Monitor payroll operations and identify opportunities to improve accuracy, efficiency, and scalability within global payroll processes. - Support audits, including 401(k) and other regulatory or financial audits, by providing required payroll data, reconciliations, and documentation. Skills and experience you'll need to succeed: - Extensive Payroll Expertise: At least 7 years of payroll experience, including hands-on responsibility for payroll processing and oversight; 5+ years of experience with ADP or similar payroll platforms required. Workday HRIS experience strongly preferred. - Global Payroll Knowledge: Experience supporting payroll operations across multiple countries and coordinating with international payroll vendors. - Multi-State US Payroll Experience: Strong understanding of US multi-state payroll compliance, payroll tax filings, and withholding requirements. - Stock-Based Compensation: Experience supporting payroll reporting and compliance related to stock-based compensation. - Implementation and Integration: Experience implementing payroll solutions and managing integrations between payroll systems and HRIS platforms. - Analytical and Process Improvement Skills: Ability to identify inefficiencies, analyze payroll data, and implement process improvements and automation. - Audit Support: Experience supporting payroll-related audits, including 401(k) and payroll tax compliance. - Acquisition Integration: Experience assisting with payroll integration for newly acquired entities. - Communication and Interpersonal Skills: Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively in a remote environment. Preferred Skills: - Previous experience in a public company or technology-focused organization. - Familiarity with payroll practices in additional regions beyond the current scope (e.g., broader EMEA payroll operations). - Experience coordinating payroll tax registrations and compliance across multiple jurisdictions. - Experience working with international payroll providers and managing vendor relationships.
