Staff Replication Development Engineer

DDN

• Design and develop multi-threaded asynchronous replication systems with parallel streaming capabilities • Build object-level delta replication with checkpointing and resume functionality • Develop replication engines supporting bucket/share-level replication controls • Implement secure data transfer mechanisms using TLS 1.3 with mutual authentication • Ensure end-to-end data integrity through checksum validation and verification pipelines • Design and implement manual failover workflows for disaster recovery scenarios • Build and maintain REST APIs for replication configuration, control, and automation • Develop metadata tracking and change detection systems to enable efficient replication • Implement RPO visibility, alerting, and operational insights for replication status • Contribute to monitoring dashboards focused on replication health and performance • Ensure systems are designed for high availability, fault tolerance, and scalability • Partner with QA teams to drive performance, resiliency, and scale validation • Collaborate with backend, security, and platform teams to deliver end-to-end replication workflows • Participate in debugging, production issue resolution, and continuous improvement of replication reliability • Provide technical leadership, architectural guidance, and mentorship to the engineering team.

Job Requirements

  • 8+ years of experience in distributed systems, storage systems, or backend software engineering
  • Strong programming skills in one or more languages: C++, Go, Java, or Rust
  • Experience designing and building data replication systems, data pipelines, or distributed data services
  • Deep understanding of distributed systems concepts (consistency, availability, scalability, fault tolerance)
  • Strong expertise in multi-threading, concurrency, and parallel processing
  • Knowledge of networking protocols and secure communication (TCP/IP, HTTP/HTTPS, TLS)
  • Experience implementing data integrity mechanisms (checksums, validation, consistency checks)
  • Experience designing and building REST APIs and service-based architectures
  • Familiarity with checkpointing, failure recovery, and retry mechanisms in distributed systems
  • Basic understanding of observability concepts (metrics, logging, alerting)
  • Strong debugging, problem-solving, and system design skills.

This role is responsible for estimating, analyzing, designing, and planning OSP projects while tracking budgets and ensuring compliance with company and industry standards. The OSP Engineer will also coordinate with municipal agencies, contractors, and utilities to ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards. This is a dynamic role that requires strong field and design experience, organizational skills, and the ability to balance technical work with permitting, reporting, and cross-team collaboration. Core Responsibilities - Meet with Township, City, County, and State officials to discuss road and utility projects (travel required; mileage reimbursed). - Locate and identify Frontier facilities, working with project managers and municipal engineers to evaluate project impacts. - Collaborate with other utilities to develop relocation plans that minimize conflicts and avoid delays. - Field/design OSP BAU work orders (service orders, subdivisions, road moves, dark fiber MDU, copper/fiber aerial, buried, and underground). - Update design and project systems (FROGS, CAD, Varasset, SiteTracker). - Coordinate with power companies and communication providers regarding make-ready work, pole replacements, and service requests. - Prepare and submit permits to local, state, and federal agencies (DOT, DNR, Railroad, Pipeline, etc.). - Partner with SSP Contractors to ensure timely and cost-effective construction. - Address plant damage repair (PDR/DOR) requests, including cable count adjustments and capital projects. - Conduct site surveys and design capital projects for cell towers. - Support field and central office technicians by investigating and resolving PUC complaints. - Work closely with Contract Engineers to ensure projects align with business and client needs. Core Experience - 3–5+ years in copper and fiber-optic telecommunications engineering, including broadband design and OSP construction. - 5+ years in network engineering or related field, with strong knowledge of fiber record management, cable counts, and permitting. - Skilled in FROGS, CAD updates, and OSP Telecom Construction. - Proficiency with Frontier mapping, design tools, and permitting systems. - Strong ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines. - Excellent communication and collaboration skills with municipal officials, contractors, and internal stakeholders. - Demonstrated knowledge of permitting processes and requirements. - Ability to travel as needed for project meetings, inspections, and surveys.
