High level summary of job role The Digital Learning and Media Services Team performs a critical function within the University of the Built Environment, leading the design and development of high-quality digital teaching, learning and assessment resources for our students. You will be essential in the development of our online modules, working collaboratively with academics and subject experts to create interactive materials and co-designed activities to support our students via technology-enhanced learning. As a Lead Learning Designer, you will make an active contribution towards the student learning journey, supporting the development of our pedagogical approaches, learning design models, and methodologies that underpin our educational provision. The Center for Excellence in Digital Education (Pitt EDGE) is seeking an experienced Instructional Designer to support an ongoing university-wide initiative. This part-time staff position requires a strong foundation in instructional design, digital pedagogy, and online course development. The Instructional Designer will collaborate with the Pitt EDGE design team to develop high-quality online and hybrid courses for both credit-bearing and non-credit programs. This role involves consulting with University faculty to design engaging, accessible, and effective learning experiences. Responsibilities include guiding faculty through course design and development, analyzing online teaching practices, and recommending instructional strategies and evaluation methods that enhance student learning outcomes. The successful candidate will apply best practices in online learning, digital accessibility, and copyright/fair use. Key duties include creating course development plans, editing and organizing course materials, producing multimedia content, building courses in the learning management system, leveraging emerging educational technologies, and conducting comprehensive quality assurance reviews to ensure excellence in course delivery. The successful candidate will have a Master’s degree in Instructional Design or the equivalent, in addition to 3-5 years of relevant experience in online learning, including higher education experience.
