Role Description The New Product Introduction (NPI) Engineer plays a critical role in bridging the gap between product design and manufacturing, ensuring that new products—particularly within SSW’s growing HVAC business segment—are introduced efficiently, cost‑effectively, and in compliance with rigorous quality standards. - Manage the transition of new products from development through full‑scale production. - Coordinate cross‑functional teams to resolve technical issues and optimize manufacturing processes. - Analyze product designs for manufacturability. - Develop and maintain detailed process documentation. - Establish manufacturing workflows that meet customer requirements, regulatory expectations, and internal quality standards. - Identify potential risks and implement mitigation strategies early in the product lifecycle. - Serve as a technical liaison across organizations and cultures, ensuring alignment on technical requirements, schedules, and launch readiness. - Ensure that new HVAC and advanced technology products are launched on schedule, within budget, and at targeted performance and reliability levels. Qualifications - Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Industrial, Manufacturing, or related field). - 3+ years of experience in manufacturing engineering or new product introduction within a manufacturing environment. - Strong understanding of manufacturing processes, quality systems, and product lifecycle management. - Proficiency with CAD software and manufacturing process simulation tools. - Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work cross-functionally in a team environment. - Bilingual in English and Japanese. Requirements - Lead and manage New Product Introduction (NPI) activities from design release through pilot builds, production ramp‑up, and mass production. - Collaborate closely with design, manufacturing, and quality teams to develop, validate, and optimize manufacturing processes for new products. - Serve as the primary technical liaison between SSW, Japan‑based customers, suppliers, and internal cross‑functional teams. - Analyze product designs to ensure design for manufacturability and assembly (DFM/DFA). - Create, maintain, and review detailed process documentation. - Plan, lead, and execute prototype builds, pilot builds, and production trials. - Coordinate with suppliers to ensure component readiness, quality compliance, and on‑time delivery. - Support supplier qualification and performance monitoring. - Monitor and analyze production metrics and implement improvements. - Lead or support root cause analysis and corrective action activities. - Partner with Quality Engineering to support PPAP, validation testing, SPC, and change management activities. - Manage project schedules, assess risks, and communicate NPI status to stakeholders. Responsibilities Other responsibilities include but are not limited to the following: - Prepare conceptual designs and execution plans - Engineering/project cost estimates and schedules - Perform and document quality reviews for other engineers and designers. - Prepare construction drawings, documents, calculations, and studies for medium and high voltage substation projects. - Responsible for technical delivery of power delivery engineering projects or tasks. - Prepare calculations, studies, and reports for substation and power systems projects meeting internal and client standards and requirements. - Apply engineering design principles and practices including formulas. - Work and coordinate with small multi-discipline (Civil, Structural, Physical, P&C, Transmission Line) project teams to execute substation projects. - Responsible for providing weekly updates to Sr. team leaders on milestone progress, estimated completion dates including percent completion of activities and supporting information to monitor project progress. Qualifications We are seeking the following qualifications: - 15+ years of experience in the Substation/Power Delivery field. - Experience with high voltage substation design (12kV through 500kV) activities such as preparing one-line diagrams, three-line diagrams, panel layouts, AC/DC schematics and wiring diagrams, physical layouts, electrical elevations, plans (equipment, grounding, and raceway), and bills of materials including selection of non-standard equipment. - Ability to interpret and apply standards including IEEE, IEC, NESC, and client standards. - Strong preference for those with excellent written and verbal communication, strong analytical and problem-solving skills, great organizational skills, proactive and forward-thinking individuals. - Experience with power system calculations (AC station service, DC battery sizing, and Voltage Drop/Cable Selection) is a plus. - Experience with relay settings is a plus. - Knowledge of substation physical equipment is a plus. - Knowledge of Protection and Controls design is a must. - B.S. Degree in Electrical Engineering or related field. - PE license is a must.
