Future of Life Institute (FLI)
• Lead legal research on possible U.S. federal and state-level policy interventions supporting public safety, security, and wellbeing for scenarios of highly multipolar AGI run amok • Research on underutilized authorities, opportunities for better communication and response, and for legal loopholes that may be filled by an action of an executive agency • Work closely with the Public Security Policy program lead to craft creative holistic solutions to projected catastrophic issues regarding public health and safety, civil rights, human rights, national security, global security, emergency preparedness, emergency management, economic stability, infrastructure security, and novel threat profiles. • Help craft holistic solution recommendations for prevention, mitigation, and/or responses to a variety of projected novel crises • Research realpolitik and judicial dynamics regarding prospective interventions
Job Requirements
- A J.D. plus 3+ years of relevant experience in law, policy research, bill craft, or engagement, or a masters' in a relevant field plus 5+ years legal research experience
- Proficient in recent advancements in legal research information technologies
- Experience in some mix of the following: Federal policymaking apparatuses, Judicial dynamics, Policy research, State-level policymaking apparatuses, Policy analysis, Policy strategy, Lobbying familiarity, Drafting EO or bill language
- Experience in some mix of the following: Security mindset, Catastrophic risk policy, Emergency preparedness, Crisis management, CBRN+C, Natsec complex familiarity, IC mindset on unknown unknowns, Strategic thinking, Multiphase multiprong strategies, Public safety, Public order, AI governance, AI safety strategy, Game theory, Criminology, Counter-terrorism, Futures studies, or Foresight methods
