The Senior Lead DevOps Engineer understands the software development lifecycle (from coding to support) and has the understanding of various automation tools for developing digital pipelines. This role will shape how Lumen combines the latest technologies and services to automate all aspects of software deployment and instance lifecycle management. The ideal candidate is passionate about software automation and understands that quality is always a priority. This role will collaborate with key stakeholders across the organization including, but not limited to, executive leadership, product owners, developers, and testers to plan, develop, and implement solutions to optimize and automate business and technical processes. This role will have responsibility for translating product vision and turning requirements into reality. Location This is a remote opportunity open to candidates located anywhere in the U.S. The Main Responsibilities - Work under agile principles in a CI/CD environment. - Participate in meetings and conferences to gather requirements and discuss architectural decisions. - Supportive and collaborative management ability in a team environment, as well as proven customer-facing management skills - Participate in internal meetings to review solutions, all dependencies, actions and timelines. - Apply a thorough understanding of deploying and managing application lifecycles to interpret customer business needs and processes. - Making data driven decisions to improve resilience, and service quality. - Develop reusable software components and tools for DevOps. - Collaborate with other developers, testers, and system engineers to ensure quality product enhancements. - Knowledge on how to troubleshoot and resolve technical issues in a test and product environments - Ability to identify, assess and integrate various open source technologies and cloud services - Analyze current technology utilized within the company and develop steps and processes to improve and expand upon them - Work with the development team to improve the system architecture. - Mentor and train other DevOps engineers and seek to continually improve processes What We Look For in a Candidate - 10+ years overall professional software development and operations experience. - Proficiency in scripting language development experience (BASH). - Proven experience in CI/CD, such as Jira and Confluence. - Experience deploying and managing production systems on a cloud infrastructure, such as AWS, MS Azure or Google Cloud. - Experience with engineering practices (test driven development, continuous integration, Jenkins, GitHub actions) Compensation This information reflects the anticipated base salary range for this position based on current national data. Minimums and maximums may vary based on location. Individual pay is based on skills, experience and other relevant factors. About the role: We’re seeking an experienced Staff DevOps Engineer to help design, automate, and scale secure, compliant cloud infrastructure supporting containerized and AI-powered applications. The ideal candidate thrives in fast-paced, compliance-driven environments (SOC 2, HIPAA, or similar) and is passionate about Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC), CI/CD, and enabling developer velocity through automation and best practices. This role will report to the Director of Product Engineering and is expected to travel no more than 10% of the time. This is a full-time, term-limited position for 1 year. Code for America is based in California and can employ those who reside full-time within the United States. This is a remote position.
