Job Description

Virtual Analysis Engineer

General Motors

Description The Role As a Virtual Analysis Engineer within the Body Manufacturing Product Interface (PI) organization, you will ensure that product designs are manufacturable, robust, and compliant with Body Manufacturing Requirements (MRs). You will use advanced math-based tools, simulation utilities, and digital verification methods to evaluate weldability, accessibility, sealing, part handling, and overall BIW manufacturability throughout the Vehicle Development Process. You will serve as a key technical bridge between Product Engineering, Stamping, Body ME, and Manufacturing Integration teams-providing early, actionable feedback that reduces design churn, prevents downstream issues, and ensures that GM's products are optimized for high-quality, high-volume production. This is a highly technical, math-driven role ideal for engineers who enjoy digital validation, complex problem-solving, and influencing product design through data-backed manufacturing insights. What You'll Do Virtual Manufacturability Analysis - Use Siemens TeamCenter, TcVIS, NX, and Tecnomatix (Process Simulate/Designer) math tools to assess design compliance with Manufacturing Requirements (MRs) including weldability, sealing, gun access, part handling, and BIW manufacturability. - Conduct manual virtual analysis where automated tools do not exist, identifying MR gaps, feasibility issues, and manufacturing risks. Issue Identification & Reporting - Generate and post manufacturability issue reports for cross-functional teams (PI, Stamping, Body ME, Product Engineering). - Create Key Performance Indicator (KPI) charts at each templated math synch point to track MR compliance, design maturity, and outstanding actions. Product-Manufacturing Integration - Support virtual manufacturing studies, using software tools to evaluate product placement and compatibility within manufacturing facilities (robot reach, station constraints, sequencing, access). - Validate interbuildability and cross-program compatibility at math-based checkpoints. Change Management & Engineering Support - Review design updates and coordinate feedback loops between Product Engineering and Manufacturing Engineering. - Provide recommendations for process-friendly design optimizations and manufacturing-driven engineering changes. Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications) - Proficiency with Siemens toolsets: TeamCenter, TcVIS, NX, and Tecnomatix Process Simulate/Designer. - Ability to rapidly learn and apply new math-based and virtual analysis tools. - Strong analytical capability with experience evaluating manufacturability constraints in digital environments. - Ability to manage virtual analysis workload, prioritize math reviews, and deliver results aligned with program timing. What Will Give You a Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications) - Body Shop launch experience or exposure to BIW processes. - Experience in BIW tooling design, joining processes, or manufacturing requirement development. - Strong understanding of math-based processes and virtual simulation workflows. - Robot simulation experience (Process Simulate or equivalent). - Familiarity with GMNA Manufacturing Standards, Body Manufacturing Requirements, and GVDP deliverables. - Coding or scripting experience (C++, Visual Basic, Python) to automate math checks or customize analysis tools. - Experience improving processes using AI. #LI-BC1 This role is categorized as hybrid. This means the selected candidate is expected to report to a specific location at least 3 times a week {or other frequency dictated by their manager}. This job may be eligible for relocation benefits.
