Role Description Inspiren is seeking a Manager / Staff Software Engineer, Embedded Platform to own and evolve the software foundation that powers our growing fleet of connected devices in production. This role sits at the intersection of embedded systems, cloud infrastructure, and large-scale device operations, and is critical to ensuring reliability, scalability, and fast iteration as Inspiren expands its device footprint. This is a hands-on technical leadership role reporting to our Director of Platform Engineering, with 1–2 direct reports to start. You’ll partner closely with hardware, firmware, data/AI, security, and infrastructure teams to build robust systems that operate reliably in real-world environments. What You’ll Own - Own and evolve Inspiren’s embedded platform supporting a growing fleet of connected devices in production. - Build systems for provisioning, updating, and monitoring device software with minimal downtime. - Improve reliability, observability, and incident response across device, network, and system layers. - Lead a small team (1–2 engineers), setting technical direction while remaining highly hands-on. - Partner closely with hardware, firmware, cloud, data/AI, and security teams to align standards and tooling. - Enable faster iteration through automation, testing, and strong release processes across device platforms. Qualifications - Experience shipping and operating production systems end-to-end (software, embedded, infrastructure, or platform). - Strong software engineering fundamentals, even if part of your background is in hardware, firmware, or embedded systems. - Hands-on experience with Linux-based systems and cloud infrastructure (AWS preferred). - Experience with infrastructure as code (Terraform, CDK, CloudFormation, or similar). - Proficiency in at least one programming language (e.g., Python, TypeScript). - Experience supporting systems at meaningful scale (e.g., large device fleets or user bases). - Ability to influence across teams and work effectively in a fast-moving, startup environment. - Startup experience preferred (Series C/D a plus), with a willingness to be scrappy and pragmatic. - Prior management experience is a plus but not required. Requirements - AI Adoption: You actively use AI coding tools (Cursor, Claude Code) as a core part of how you work. Your AI usage goes well beyond basic prompting and into automating tasks, long-running processes, and complex integrations. - We care more about depth of impact and ownership than checking every box. Benefits - The annual salary for this role is $200,000-$230,000 + equity + benefits (including medical, dental, and vision, and parental leave). - Flexible PTO. - Location: Remote, US or Canada. - NYC Preferred. - NYC-based candidates: hybrid, in-office collaboration expected. - Non-NYC candidates: periodic travel for installs and team collaboration. - Expected travel: ~1x per quarter within the US.

• Manage a team of software engineers • Oversee day-to-day agile executions, planning, process improvements, reporting and reviews • Work closely with the team, report and cooperate directly with the CTO • Collaborate with cross-functional teams such as Product, Marketing, Engineering • Run or join virtual teams for different cross-team projects delivery • Ensure delivery on multiple projects of increasing dependencies in a fast-paced environment • Technology quality ownership • Ensure that projects are delivered on time, within scope, and deadlines • Participate in release planning, sprint planning, and conflict resolution within or between scrum teams • Work with product management to define the requirements/user stories, perform groomings and reviews • Manage changes to the project scope, project schedule and project costs using appropriate verification techniques • Perform risk management to minimize project risks • Work with customer success teams to resolve critical customer issues • Track project performance, specifically to analyze the successful completion of short and long-term goals • Be both a technical leader and a thoughtful people manager • Provide team members guidance, regular feedback, coaching, and mentoring • Manage performance and conduct regular performance reviews • Work closely together with recruiters to grow the team, participate in interviews, recruiting and onboarding processes • Help the team solve technical challenges related to performance, fault-tolerance, security and scalability.
