• Own the managed DBA services vendor relationship, including work intake, prioritization, escalation, quality control, and acceptance of deliverables; ensure the vendor provides effective 24x7 operational coverage and drives measurable outcomes. • Serve as the escalation point for high-impact database performance incidents (e.g., slow queries, full-text search degradation, poor I/O performance), including hands-on troubleshooting and remediation when required to protect application availability and end-user experience. • Own database operations outcomes including deployments, patching and upgrades, availability, stability, operational risk management, and day-to-day operations for Microsoft SQL Server instances, with fractional responsibilities for Postgres and Elasticsearch. • Direct and coordinate database operational activities during monthly maintenance windows; participate in CAB processes and ensure operational readiness, change validation, and appropriate documentation. • Own database backup and recovery outcomes using native SQL Server tooling and operationalize recovery testing and documentation to support RPO/RTO objectives. • Own database access provisioning and operational enforcement of least privilege/RBAC; drive consistency, implement access review processes, and partner with the Security team in reviewing vulnerability findings, evidence collection processes, and remediation of security vulnerabilities, including in FedRAMP-regulated environments. • Build and improve operational visibility by defining dashboards/alerts and maturing monitoring practices, leveraging vendor tooling and internal observability platforms (e.g., Grafana Cloud). • Steward and improve upon the existing automation ecosystem, improving consistency, documentation, maintainability, and operational safety. • Drive capacity and cost initiatives by identifying constraints, prioritizing highest-impact remediation, and managing vendor-hour utilization to reduce overages and improve predictability. • Establish and maintain runbooks, operational procedures, and escalation paths for database operations, including vendor handoffs, internal escalation protocols, and repeatable troubleshooting guidance. • Respond to critical alerts during the working day, and after hours per escalation procedure.
