What You'll Do As our Indirect Tax Researcher IV, you will ensure the accuracy and timeliness of tax compliance information. Are you passionate about research and excited by the intersection of tax and technology? Given the dynamic nature of indirect tax law trends, we offer a commitment to learning and staying current on developments and compliance. You will be an individual contributor with no direct reports. The Indirect Tax Researcher IV will report to the Manager, Indirect Tax Research. This position is remote within the United States. #LI-Remote What Your Responsibilities Will Be - You will research and interpret Sales and Use Tax laws, including reporting and remittance requirements, to keep Avalara tax automation products in compliance with North American tax laws. - You will maintain existing taxability rules for assigned jurisdictions by overseeing tax law changes and converting these changes into both human readable explanations and machine-readable formats using the latest AI-enabled proprietary technology. - You will conduct unit tests to validate the results of transactions pre-production. - You will collaborate with product management and engineering teams to implement solutions. - You will thoroughly detail research findings, providing comprehensive summaries and legal citations. - You will identify opportunities for process automation, tooling optimization, and reducing redundancy to enhance efficiency. What You'll Need to be Successful - Bachelor's degree, or equivalent, in finance, economics, business administration, law, or accounting We may substitute a master's in finance, business administration, law, economics, or accounting for 2 years of experience. We may substitute a PhD for 5 years of experience. - 8+ years of experience in indirect tax in advisory or consulting roles. - Juris Doctorate - You have excellent research skills, including a logical, creative, and detailed approach to drilling down to specific data to surface information that is important to the accuracy of the published content. - You have experience applying mathematical calculations, percentages, and general accounting rules. - You have experience with different software applications and tools. - You have a natural curiosity about technology and an interest in innovation and learning about new areas of transaction taxes Pay Range Details The base pay range(s) below are provided in compliance with state specific laws. Pay ranges may be different in other locations. Colorado $122,300-$195,700 (annually) Washington $122,300-$216,300 (annually) California $122,300-$236,900 (annually) NYC $148,100-$236,900 (annually) The pay range above is the general base pay range for a successful candidate in the state listed. The successful candidate’s actual salary/wage may be based on various factors, such as geographic location, candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations. This role is eligible for an annual bonus based on individual and company performance, depending on the terms of the applicable plan and the employee’s role.
