Staff Analyst, Competitive Pricing
Upstart
• Program Ownership: Lead the end-to-end competitive intelligence program, including managing internal and external data sources and vendor relationships • Strategic Synthesis: Integrate disparate data sources (surveys, internal comparison data, and third-party reports) into a single, cohesive narrative regarding our pricing versus the broader market. • Executive Communication: Serve as the primary voice to leadership on comp pricing providing high-stakes insights for everything from day to day understanding to board meetings and earnings calls. • Expansion & Growth: Lead the roadmap to expand competitive pricing coverage from Personal Loans into all nascent products (Auto, Home, etc.). • Pricing Influence: Translate competitive gaps into actionable pricing recommendations, helping the team decide when to lean in or pull back based on market movements. • Think critically about the end-to-end system, modeling and reasoning about how pricing changes interact with risk assessment, underwriting policies, loan funding mechanisms, and other parts of the business.
Job Requirements
- Strong analytical and quantitative background with at least 8+ years of professional experience in analytics, data science, or a related quantitative field.
- Proficiency in data analysis tools, particularly SQL and Python/R.
- Experience with BI/visualization tools (e.g., Looker, Tableau, Mode).
- Degree in a quantitative field such as Economics, Statistics, Mathematics, Engineering, Data Science, Operations Research, or a related area.
- Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to tackle complex, ambiguous problems with a structured approach.
- Strong communication and presentation skills, with the ability to articulate complex analytical concepts to diverse audiences.
- Demonstrated ability to think critically about business problems and the systems they operate within.
- Experience with survey data

• Analyze roadway video and imagery to identify pavement distresses: cracking (alligator, longitudinal, transverse, block), potholes, rutting, raveling, patching, and other surface defects • Classify infrastructure assets including signage, road markings, guardrails, drainage features, and barriers • Apply pavement condition assessment methodologies to ensure consistent, accurate classification • Own the full data creation lifecycle from video preprocessing through tagging, QA, and final delivery • Define, document, and continuously refine classification standards for roadway conditions and assets • Build and maintain QA frameworks that ensure repeatable, high-quality output • Act as the final decision-maker on ambiguous classifications and edge cases • Identify recurring quality issues and implement corrective processes • Lead and manage annotation and review teams to meet quality and delivery targets • Train team members on pavement distress identification and classification standards • Set performance benchmarks and provide clear feedback to maintain consistency • Partner closely with Machine Learning teams to align datasets with real-world infrastructure requirements • Work with Customer Success teams to ensure timely and accurate dataset delivery • Translate customer needs (transportation agencies, municipalities) into clear internal execution standards • Identify opportunities to automate or streamline tagging, QA, and review workflows • Build systems and processes that support growing dataset volume and complexity
