Senior Engineering Manager – HHIP

Swing Development (SwingDev)

• Lead, mentor and grow a team of seven engineers (mid and senior), fostering their growth for higher impact and effective teamwork. • Manage one of Hippo's top strategic engineering spaces – Insurance Products charter – end‑to‑end, from technical direction to delivery. • Collaborate with talented Product Managers to manage the team’s project roadmap, clarifying requirements, and ensuring a balance of technical excellence, agility, and user benefit. • Influence and collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders within Hippo. • Show strong technical leadership with a data‑driven mindset, focusing on excellent execution and high‑quality software, and ensuring the team delivers real business value – not just features. • Coordinate with teams in our global locations across the US and Poland.

Job Requirements

  • Have experience in designing scalable, maintainable systems with a solid architectural understanding.
  • Have successfully led one or more teams as a people manager.
  • Communicate clearly, handle escalations effectively, and ensure continuous progress.
  • Have a proven ability to influence cross-functional teams and senior management.
  • Have a strong automation mindset and love getting rid of repetitive, manual work.
  • Care about growing your team and helping others succeed, not just about your own achievements.
  • Are focused on building strong, trust‑based relationships with business and product partners.
  • Are not afraid of legacy systems – you see them as an opportunity to improve, modernize, and redesign.

  • Are adaptable, able to expand your scope of work or transition to new areas of impact within a fast-moving scale-up environment.
  • Have a high level of technical proficiency with some of Hippo’s tech stack, including JavaScript/Node.js, TypeScript, React, and Python.
  • Have experience collaborating with distributed teams and are open to working across locations, including Poland and the US (CA, TX).
  • Have a great command of English and Polish (both written & spoken).
  • Are available in the afternoons – we prioritize everyone’s personal time and work-life fit, but since we work in multinational teams, occasional evening meetings may be necessary to ensure smooth communication across time zones.
  • Nice to have would be if you: have insurance industry experience, especially in US Home insurance domain
