Summer Accounting Intern

BKF Engineers

Role Description As a Summer Intern on BKF’s Finance and Accounting team, you will play a meaningful role in supporting the firm’s financial operations while gaining hands-on experience in a dynamic consulting environment. This position offers the opportunity to work with our cost accounting system, develop an understanding of consulting contracts, and ensure alignment with internal processes and procedures. You’ll collaborate with experienced professionals, contribute to real projects, and build a strong foundation in financial analysis, compliance, and operational excellence—all while being part of a supportive and growth-oriented team at BKF. This is a remote position with the option to be hybrid if a BKF office is nearby. Responsibilities - Assist with accounts payable and receivable processes, including invoice processing, vendor communication, and payment reconciliation. - Perform daily bank reconciliation. - Assist with the company’s EFT payment campaign for vendors and EFT/lockbox payment or campaign for clients. - Assist with collection efforts. - Support the month-end close process by preparing journal entries and reconciling balance sheet accounts. - Assist in the preparation of financial reports, including income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements. - Conduct data entry and maintenance of financial records in accordance with established procedures. - Assist with internal and external audit activities, including gathering supporting documentation and responding to inquiries. - Assist with project setups in company ERP system, Deltek Vantagepoint. - Participate in special projects as assigned, such as process improvement or system implementations. - Collaborate with team members to ensure accuracy and completeness of financial data and reports. Qualifications - Currently pursuing a degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. - Strong attention to detail and accuracy of work output. - Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other accounting software is a plus. - Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. - Ability to prioritize tasks and manage time effectively in a fast-paced environment. - Enthusiasm for learning and willingness to take on new challenges. - Previous internship or relevant work experience is preferred but not required. Requirements - Physical Demands: Mostly a sedentary position, normal bending, stooping and lifting required. - Must be able to visually interpret written text, prepare written documents, communicate by telephone and use a computer. - The employee is occasionally required to stand. - The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Work Conditions - Exposure to constant or intermittent sounds at a low or moderate level consistent with an office setting. - Exposure to high-stress, fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment. - This is a remote position with the option to be hybrid if a BKF office is nearby.
