POSITION SUMMARY BioUrja Advisors is currently seeking a Head of Carbon Storage – Development & Operations to lead efforts to identify and develop subsurface carbon storage opportunities. RESPONSIBILITIES Project Execution - Lead subsurface budgeting and planning efforts, including the sequence of activity and costs from screening to post injection site care (PISC). - Develop cost effective storage monitoring plans. - Provide technical input regarding overall project planning, risk mitigation, operational strategies, and achievable development schedules to meet economic objectives. - Work with finance teams on budgets and cost structures. Storage Evaluation - Lead effort by coordinating consultants (i.e. geoscientists, engineers) to mature identified CO2 storage opportunities, including oversight of technical work ranging from geologic evaluation to CO2 injection simulations to verify target injection rates and plume predictions, well planning (injection and monitoring), well data collection, well optimization, well site selections, Area of Review and pore space/ land requirements, and any additional data requirements (i.e. seismic). - Lead de-risking efforts, scenario planning and development optimization. Regulatory Applications - Lead development and submission of EPA Class VI applications to ensure complete reservoir-related interpretations are included and development plans are presented accurately, including participation and leading efforts in response to regulatory agencies throughout the permitting process. Well Planning and Drilling Support - Develop and recommend testing plans for characterization and development wells for specific storage sites. - Primary point of contract for drilling consultants that would manage all drilling-related activities. New Opportunity Screening - Work with consultants using available data to perform screening level CCS site evaluations to quickly determine storage potential with a focus on storage capacity, injectivity, retention, and other related factors. Commercial and Business Development - Support new business development initiative and assist in development of responses to formal requests for proposals. REQUIREMENTS & QUALIFICATIONS - Minimum of Master of Science in Geology or closely related discipline. - Minimum of 20 years of subsurface related work experience with a minimum of 5 years of direct CCS project experience. - Ability to travel 15% - 25% of the time. - Experience with complex subsurface geologic concepts and static modeling methods and familiarity with relevant software. Knowledge and use of reservoir data types for input for CO2 injection simulations (e.g. core data, logs, pressure transient analysis). Basic understanding of reservoir engineering concepts are a plus. - Deep knowledge of the CCS industry and Class VI permitting process and regulations. - Understanding of monitoring requirements and familiar with monitoring technologies. - Project management and leadership experience, including understanding of economic metrics including net present value concepts. - Direct experience with well operations is preferred. - Creative and motivated individual accustomed to working remotely in a multi-disciplined team. - Proficiency in Microsoft Office. - Must be a detail oriented, self-motivated, project delivery focused candidate capable of leading teams as well as directly contributing to essential work products. - Possess ability to deliver and present complex subsurface concepts to diverse groups that are nontechnical. Excellent collaboration and communication skills are required. - Ability to prioritize assignments, deal with interruptions, and meet deadlines in a fast paced and growth-oriented environment.
