We are seeking an experienced Director of Construction to oversee commercial construction operations across projects in California. This leadership role is responsible for managing project teams, overseeing construction execution, and ensuring projects are delivered safely, on schedule, and within budget. The Director of Construction will work closely with executive leadership, project managers, and field teams to drive operational performance, improve project delivery, and support the continued growth of the organization. This role is ideal for someone with strong experience managing multiple commercial construction projects and leading project management teams within a general contracting or construction management environment. Responsibilities - Provide leadership and oversight for commercial construction projects from preconstruction through project completion - Manage and mentor project managers, superintendents, and construction teams - Oversee project schedules, budgets, and operational performance across multiple projects - Establish project management standards, reporting structures, and operational procedures - Collaborate with executive leadership on project strategy, resource allocation, and operational planning - Review contracts, scopes of work, and major project risks prior to execution - Support preconstruction activities including estimating reviews, bid strategy, and project planning - Monitor project financial performance including cost control, forecasting, and change management - Maintain strong relationships with clients, subcontractors, and project partners - Ensure compliance with safety standards, regulatory requirements, and company policies
Job Requirements
- 10+ years of experience in commercial construction
- 5+ years of experience in senior leadership roles such as Senior Project Manager, Construction Manager, or Director-level positions
- Strong background managing multiple commercial construction projects simultaneously
- Experience working for a general contractor or construction management firm
- Proven ability to lead and develop project management teams
- Strong understanding of construction operations, scheduling, and cost management
- Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills
- Preferred Experience
- Experience with commercial, institutional, industrial, or mixed-use construction projects
- Familiarity with construction management software such as Procore, Bluebeam, or similar platforms
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, or related field preferred
