Role Description Sev1Tech is seeking a Sr. Automation Engineer to support the Naval Information Warfare Center Atlantic (NIWC Atlantic) Expeditionary Enterprise Systems and Services (E2S2) Division. The role is designed for a technical leader responsible for high-level cloud-native design, cross-functional team leadership, and the mitigation of risks within complex federal cloud environments. - Strategic Automation Leadership: Lead automation initiatives and design large-scale repeatable infrastructure (IaC). - Cross-Functional Collaboration: Act as a liaison between developers, security analysts, and project managers to ensure mission success. - Mentorship: Formally responsible for mentoring junior engineers and elevating the team's technical capabilities. - Continuous Operations: Oversight of full-lifecycle CI/CD pipelines, including automated testing, deployment, and rollback strategies. - Advanced Troubleshooting: Serve as the final point of escalation for diagnosing and resolving complex cloud infrastructure issues. Qualifications - Active Top Secret Level Clearance. - Bachelor’s in Computer Engineering or Computer Science from an ABET-accredited program. - 10 years of experience with Masters or 14 years with Bachelors. - 10+ years in cloud engineering, automation, or DevOps. - Certification/training in accordance with DoD 8570.1M / 8140 (e.g., Security+ CE, CISSP, Network+ CE). - Hands-on experience with GitLab CI, CloudWatch, and either Python or Bash. Requirements - Technical Skills: - Advanced AWS Ecosystem: Expert mastery of VPC, IAM, Lambda, EC2, S3, RDS, and CloudFormation. - Scripting & Tooling: High proficiency in Python, Bash, or PowerShell and the use of AWS SDKs/CLI for custom tool development. - Networking Architecture: Advanced knowledge of hybrid-cloud networking, including Transit Gateways, VPC peering, and VPN integrations with on-premises systems. - Observability: Implementation of enterprise monitoring solutions using CloudWatch, Datadog, or Splunk. - Infrastructure as Code: Expert use of Terraform and Ansible for complex, multi-environment deployments. - Compliance and Security: - Regulatory Compliance: Deep understanding of FISMA and NIST 800-53. - Risk Management: Ability to assess and mitigate technical and operational risks while ensuring strict adherence to federal regulations. - Security Architecture: Designing secure environments using IAM best practices, encryption at rest/transit, and robust logging/auditing.
