• Assist the Chief of Litigation Services with coordinating and assigning litigation support tasks to paralegals and legal assistants while ensuring quality, timely completion of tasks. • Mentor, train, and provide substantive guidance to legal support staff, helping to strengthen litigation skills, procedural knowledge, and overall performance. • Manage and support all phases of litigation from an operational and procedural standpoint, including pleadings, motion practice, discovery, arbitration, trial preparation, and appellate procedures. • Support trial and hearing preparation by overseeing pretrial filings, managing trial transcripts, and compiling, organizing, and tracking trial exhibits. • Assist with drafting, reviewing, preparing, filing, and organizing pleadings, briefs, appeals, and other legal documents using Microsoft Word, CM/ECF, and related systems. • Conduct legal and factual research using Westlaw and other sources to support attorneys and litigation teams. • Perform detailed cite-checking and quality control of legal documents, including Bluebook compliance, Shepardizing authorities, and verifying the accuracy of quoted material and cited exhibits. • Organize and maintain case files, pleadings, expert materials, attorney notebooks, and related documents in both hard copy and electronic case-management systems. • Implement and maintain organizational systems for case calendars, filings, correspondence, and litigation materials using firm software and tools. • Communicate with courts, outside counsel, clients, experts, and vendors as needed in support of litigation activities. • Collaborate with attorneys and internal departments to develop efficient procedures and improve litigation support workflows. • Perform other duties as assigned.

Role Description In this role you will be defending insured clients and Grange Insurance in an ethical and professional manner and support the house counsel office supervisor in the day-to-day office operations. - Defend clients (Grange insureds or Grange Insurance) in pending litigation throughout the entire assigned state, travel when necessary, including occasional overnight travel. - Comply with all State Bar ethical standards and continuing legal education requirements expected of an attorney in good standing. - Work and communicate with Grange claims legal personnel in a prompt and efficient manner on all assigned litigation files. - Maintain pending and closed litigation files in an efficient, professional and standardized manner per House Counsel protocols and Grange Insurance records retention expectations. Litigation files are 100% electronic/paperless and maintained on the Litify case management system. - Participate in quality assurance reviews of assigned files and house counsel office procedures. - Work with House Counsel office supervisor to maintain recurring management reports for the office. - Assist in the training of the office paralegal(s). - Assist in the training of the office legal assistant(s). - Position is 100% remote, with occasional in-person meetings and training. Qualifications - Must be a member of the Indiana State Bar with at least three years of experience in insurance defense litigation. - Must be able to litigate and defend clients in both state and federal court. - Must be able to litigate and defend both tort/negligence actions and coverage disputes throughout the entire assigned state. - Candidate must have both personal lines and commercial lines experience and knowledge of claim values, particularly bodily injury claims. - Good knowledge of the laws of tort/negligence, civil procedure, and insurance contracts and their interpretation. - Should demonstrate initiative to improve his/her operation and adapt to the demands of a trial/litigation office, the civil trial courts and travel as required by the job. - Good analytical, organizational, legal research, and written and verbal communication skills are required. - Valid driver’s license required, as extensive auto travel may be necessary. - Good knowledge of Windows Suite products (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.) preferred. - Position is 100% remote with occasional in-person meetings and training.
