SAP Payroll Configuration Consultant

Strada

• Perform hands-on configuration of SAP Payroll (U.S.), ensuring alignment with approved payroll design documents and business requirements • Lead and execute configuration tasks including: Tax model setup, Wage type configuration, General Ledger (GL) posting setup, Gross-up calculations • Support the Payroll Lead Consultant and act as a backup for assigned tasks and responsibilities • Lead small-scale payroll implementations, managing configuration, testing, and deployment • Optimize key payroll processes including: Gross-to-net calculations, Tax reporting and compliance, Garnishment setup and management, Year-end activities, Accrual setup • Conduct parallel payroll testing, troubleshooting issues, and resolve integration challenges • Collaborate with integration leads to ensure seamless integration with SAP FI, Time Management, Benefits, Compensation, and third-party systems • Communicate progress, risks, and issues clearly to project management and stakeholders

Job Requirements

  • Minimum 7+ years of hands-on experience configuring SAP Payroll (ECP or HCM) with a strong focus on U.S. Payroll
  • Proven experience in: Tax model setup and BSI Tax Factory integration
  • Wage type configuration and payroll catalog setup
  • GL posting configuration
  • Gross-up calculations and off-cycle payroll processing
  • Garnishment configuration and management
  • Month-end accrual setup
  • Successful delivery of at least 3+ full lifecycle SAP Payroll implementations
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work with cross-functional and remote teams
  • Highly self-motivated and capable of working independently in a fast-paced environment.

Role Description The Payroll Manager is responsible for managing, planning, and directing the activities of the payroll team to ensure accurate, timely, and efficient payroll operations for a multi-state employee population. This role also provides oversight and support for the Human Resource Information System (HRIS), including system maintenance, data integrity, reporting, and coordination with internal teams and external vendors. The Payroll Manager serves as the primary liaison between HR, IT, Payroll, and outside partners regarding HRIS services and support. Job Roles and Responsibilities - Payroll Operations - Ensure accurate and timely processing of bi-weekly and special payrolls for all multi-state employees. - Oversee continuous improvement of payroll processes, including status changes, garnishments, direct deposits, and related workflows. - Manage all year-end payroll activities. - Handle escalated payroll issues and provide expert guidance to staff and internal stakeholders. - Oversee the handling of payroll tax notices and agency inquiries. - Manage the payroll vendor relationship to ensure optimal service delivery and full utilization of vendor capabilities. - Team Leadership - Provide ongoing support, training, mentoring, and development to payroll staff to ensure high performance. - Plan, schedule, and manage team workload to promote efficiency and accuracy. - HRIS Support & Administration - Maintain and oversee HRIS functions, including system and application maintenance, data analysis, and data integrity. - Determine system resource needs and recommend enhancements or modifications. - Develop and maintain HRIS code tables and database fields. - Communicate system updates and database changes to all relevant stakeholders. - Partner with internal and external technical support teams to troubleshoot and resolve HRIS issues. - Participate in project teams to ensure HRIS systems meet business requirements. - Work with end users, management, Payroll, IT, and vendor technical support to define system requirements, functionality, and security access. - Coordinate implementation of HRIS enhancements, upgrades, and ongoing system modifications. - Data Integrity - Oversee payroll and HR data processing activities to ensure accuracy and consistency. - Assist with data entry as needed. - Develop and maintain audit schedules to verify data accuracy and ensure timely deliverables. - Collaborate with HR and Payroll staff, employees, and managers to resolve data integrity issues. - Provide testing and support for the annual merit and bonus cycle. - End-User Support - Collaborate with Corporate Learning Services to develop and deliver HRIS training for HR program applications (e.g., Employee and Manager Self-Service, Salary Planning, Benefits Administration, Recruitment). - Provide guidance and training to Payroll and HR staff to ensure accurate data processing and effective system use. - Reporting - Determine reporting needs and deliver HRIS and payroll reports based on evolving business requirements. - Create and deliver complex custom and ad hoc reports for business units and senior leadership. - Produce standard corporate reports on weekly, monthly, and other scheduled intervals. - Prepare required reports for federal, state, and local agencies. - General Responsibilities - Collaborate, coordinate, and communicate effectively across departments. - Ensure compliance with HIPAA regulations and requirements. - Demonstrate commitment to the company’s core values. - Maintain confidentiality of PHI; this role is designated as High Risk due to exposure to sensitive data. - Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned. Qualifications - 7–10 years of progressive payroll experience, including strong multi-state payroll and taxation knowledge. - Minimum 3 years of payroll supervisory experience with proven ability to manage accurate, timely payroll processing; multi-state reporting experience required. - 3–5 years of HRIS experience supporting system maintenance, reporting, and data integrity. - Experience with ADP Enterprise Version 5 and E*Time preferred. - Strong understanding of payroll regulations, local tax requirements, and HRIS compliance considerations. - Proficiency with reporting tools, relational databases, SQL, and HRIS report writers. - Demonstrated ability to lead and develop teams, manage projects, and implement process improvements. - Strong analytical, problem-solving, decision-making, and organizational skills. - Excellent communication skills with the ability to prepare reports, present information clearly, and respond effectively to internal and external stakeholders. - Proven ability to build strong working relationships across all levels of the organization and maintain exceptional customer service. - Ability to manage confidential and sensitive information with discretion. - Flexible, creative, and solutions-oriented approach to problem-solving and continuous improvement. - Bachelor’s degree required.
