Role Description Science has an exciting opportunity for a paid Social Media Intern to join our Visuals Department this summer! Reporting to the Digital Director, this Social Media Intern will gain hands-on experience translating science news, research, commentary, and visuals into engaging social media content for 8 platforms with 14 million total followers. Experience creating short-form video for social is a plus. Help us ignite the next era of science. - Create and schedule accurate, engaging, and brand-appropriate written and visual content for the Science family of journals social media feeds - Collaborate with the Web Content Strategy, Multimedia, Design, Graphics, and Photography teams to produce still and motion visuals for social - Assist with script writing, voiceovers, and video editing for short-form videos for social - Monitor and moderate feedback on social, elevating issues as they arise - Additional duties as assigned Qualifications - Currently enrolled in a university or college program at the undergraduate, master’s, or Ph.D. level. Recent graduates in the past year also may be considered - A minimum of 2 years education toward a degree - Intellectual curiosity about science and comfort with scientific ideas is essential - Writing, journalism, and/or communications experience a plus - Familiarity with a variety of social media platforms - Experience creating short-form video for social a plus - Working knowledge of Adobe CC a plus - Experience using a social media scheduling platform a plus (we use Sprout Social) - Organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple projects simultaneously on deadline - Comfortable working both independently and collaboratively Requirements - DC Metro Area is strongly preferred but open to remote workers in select states. If you are not located in or able to work from a state where AAAS has a business presence, you may not be eligible for this position. - This is a 12-week internship, which will run from June 1, 2026 - August 21, 2026. - The anticipated initial rate of compensation for this position is $17.95 per hour. - Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States without the help of a sponsorship. - Submit a resume and cover letter by March 30, 2026. Your cover letter should address why you want this internship. Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis.
