We are looking for a General Counsel to join our Management Team. This individual will serve as the organization’s most senior legal authority and strategic advisor to the Chief Executive Officer and executive team. This individual will lead enterprise legal strategy, corporate governance, regulatory compliance, and risk management to protect and advance the company’s growth and long-term value. This remote position is open to individuals who live in, or are open to relocating to, the following states: Arizona, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Nevada, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, and Washington. This position requires travel to our headquarters in Melville, NY 12 times per year for leadership meetings and other in-person meetings. Additional travel may be required based on department and company needs. We reimburse reasonable and necessary travel expenses, and you’re also welcome to work on-site anytime beyond these visits – our doors are always open. Role Type: Full-Time, Exempt Location: Remote Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. with time zone flexibility Base Salary: $228,000 – $380,000 per year Responsibilities: - Serves as chief legal advisor to the Chief Executive Officer and executive leadership team, providing practical, business-oriented guidance on commercial strategy, regulatory compliance, employment matters, and enterprise risk - Build and implement the company’s legal infrastructure, including contract templates, review processes, governance practices, compliance frameworks, and risk management standards to support continued rapid growth - Lead all commercial contracting activities, including drafting, reviewing, and negotiating complex vendor, technology, logistics, marketplace, payment processing, and strategic partnership agreements - Bring legal expertise to business decisions related to real estate and facilities - Oversee corporate governance activities, including Board decision support, preparation of resolutions, maintenance of corporate records, subsidiary management, and compliance with shareholder and minority private equity investor requirements - Identify, assess, and mitigate enterprise-wide legal risk across e-commerce operations, distribution, consumer protection, data privacy, employment practices, geographic business footprint, and regulatory compliance - Manage litigation and dispute resolution strategy, including directing outside counsel, overseeing legal spend, and driving cost-effective and timely resolutions aligned with business priorities - In partnership with outside employment counsel, provide legal guidance on employment and labor matters, including workplace policies, investigations, disciplinary actions, terminations, and evolving employment regulations - Establish and maintain scalable legal processes, contract templates, internal policies, and governance frameworks to support efficiency, consistency, and operational growth - Develop and maintain internal policies and training programs that promote ethical conduct, regulatory compliance, and consistent business practices across departments - Select, manage, and evaluate outside counsel and specialized legal advisors, determining when to leverage external expertise versus building internal capability - Represent the organization in interactions with regulators, investors, auditors, lenders, insurers, and other external stakeholders on legal and compliance matters Requirements: - Juris Doctor degree and admission to practice law in at least one U.S. jurisdiction - A minimum of 10 years of progressively responsible legal experience, including law firm and in-house counsel experience - Experience advising senior executives on corporate governance, regulatory compliance, and enterprise risk matters - Experience structuring, drafting, and negotiating complex commercial agreements - Experience managing litigation and directing outside counsel - Experience operating in a private equity-backed or high-growth environment (preferred) - Experience building or scaling an in-house legal function (preferred) Why work with us: - We have awesome benefits – We offer a wide variety of benefits to help support you and your loved ones.
