Role Description Next League is hiring a Vice President of Engineering to lead our team through its next phase of growth. This is a hands-on senior leadership role reporting to the Chief Digital Officer, with ownership of our delivery practices and the technical platforms that underpin work for our clients. This role will continue the acceleration of our engineering modernization, scale our use of AI across client deliverables, and raise the technical bar across every engagement. - Advance our AI-assisted engineering operating model and expand our generative and agentic AI capabilities, in collaboration with the broader Next League staff. - Drive continued improvement in architecture and delivery quality across client engagements. - Help shape where Next League invests in proprietary capability, where we lean on platform partners, and where we integrate best-of-breed third-party technologies. - Define and champion an AI-grounded multi-year technology roadmap aligned with business growth and client needs across leagues, federations, teams, venues, and media organizations. Key Responsibilities - Team Leadership & Operating Model - Lead, mentor, and grow Next League’s engineering organization. - Evolve how the team builds: AI-assisted development workflows, strong technical standards, tight product/design/engineering collaboration, and fast prototyping-to-production paths. - Maintain and extend technical standards across Infrastructure as Code, source control discipline, CI/CD pipelines, microservices decomposition, security-by-design, and performance testing at scale. - Ensure resilient and scalable delivery for live sporting events and other business-critical client environments. - AI, Data & Platform Innovation - Scale Next League’s production AI engineering practice across the Marketing Tech and Media Tech solutions we deliver for clients. - Lead the design of observability and operations practices: component-level metrics, product-level evaluation, and integrated dashboards for live event monitoring. - Guide the design and scaling of fan data and revenue platforms that deliver personalized, real-time experiences that drive revenue for our clients’ audiences. - Client Partnership & Executive Engagement - Collaborate with client technical leaders to define and build architecture, AI, and delivery solutions that drive outcomes aligned with their business objectives. - Contribute technical depth and thought leadership to proposals, pitches, and discovery work, including co-authored content with cloud and platform partners. - Represent Next League at industry conferences, partner events, and in published insights. Qualifications - Experience designing and operating modern cloud-native platforms across distributed systems, APIs, event-driven architectures, observability, security, and infrastructure automation. - 10+ years of progressive technology leadership, with at least 5 years in a senior director or VP-level role managing and growing engineering teams. - Proven track record architecting and delivering large-scale platforms for sports, media, entertainment organizations, or similar industry. - Hands-on experience operationalizing AI (e.g., ML, generative, agentic) in production. - Direct experience with AI-assisted coding tools, with the ability to guide teams on best practices for adopting and operating them. - Experience designing and scaling real-time systems where latency and accuracy are mission-critical. - Expert hands-on development experience in a modern tech stack, preferably Node/Next/Typescript. - Comfortable representing the firm with clients, partners, and at industry events. - Professional services organization or similar team working environment experience is required. - Experience working within or directly alongside a professional supporting sports organizations, tours, leagues, federations, governing bodies, broadcasters, or media rights holders, is strongly preferred. - Strong familiarity with several of the following: - Cloud infrastructure and serverless platforms; Infrastructure as Code and environment automation. - Real-time data pipelines, modern analytics stacks, and large-scale data warehousing. - LLM-enabled application patterns, agentic workflows, prompt-as-code practices, and evaluation. - Monitoring, observability, and production support. - Personalization, decisioning, and intelligent automation in client marketing and media technology products. - Fluency with ecosystems and tools used by modern AI-driven engineering teams, for example: - Cloud platforms (AWS, Google Cloud, Microsoft Azure). - Infrastructure as Code and orchestration (Terraform, Kubernetes). - Data and analytics platforms (Snowflake, Databricks, dbt). - Observability (Datadog). - AI/ML frameworks (LangChain, vector databases, MLflow, Anthropic, OpenAI). - AI coding assistants (Claude Code, Cursor, Codex). Role Description Next League works with a wide range of professional sports organizations. Our team is responsible for designing, developing, and implementing day-to-day operations of these websites. In joining our team, you will gain exclusive access to the inner workings of a leader in the sports and tech sectors, particularly during the world's most iconic sporting events. The goal of this position is multifaceted: - Provide Team USA athletes with exposure to various parts of our business operations. - Leverage your skills as a goal-oriented and adaptable team player. - Create an opportunity for personal and professional growth through the unique lens of sport. By becoming immersed in live operations, customer success, and project management, we hope the fellow will gain a comprehensive understanding of how the sports-tech industry functions and use their valuable skills and mindset cultivated through being a high-level athlete. This role is a part-time role (15-20 hours/week) and will pay $20/hour. Please note that we are looking for someone that has availability during off-business hours. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: - Collaborate with our team to support day-to-day management and content creation during the summer sports season. - Support live operations for LPGA and USGA events, including monitoring systems and triaging incoming requests to ensure timely resolution, typically during off-business hours. - Work closely with experts to learn and implement SEO optimization best practices, content strategy development, and user-behavior analysis. - Actively monitor and respond to help desk requests from external stakeholders, troubleshooting technical issues, providing timely assistance, and escalating complex issues to the appropriate teams for resolution. - Become proficient in Contentstack and provide strategic recommendations for content authoring in a headless CMS, driving efficiency in content management processes. Qualifications - Must currently or formerly be recognized by the USOPC as a TeamUSA, Olympic, or Paralympic athlete. - Have availability during off-business hours. - High School Diploma required; bachelor’s degree preferred. - Strong writing and editing abilities. - Proficiency in basic computer skills. - Ability to ensure content accuracy and consistency. - Ability to work cross-functionally with various internal teams. - Ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines. - Willingness to stay up to date on industry trends. - Open to learning about website analytics, live event operations, and search engine optimization. Role Description - Design and develop test plans and strategies; consider various testing approaches and methodologies to ensure sufficient breadth and depth of testing approach. - Work with Project Management Team to identify and plan for QA processes and testing. - Conduct thorough and in-depth requirement testing and analysis across a broad range of browsers, operating systems, and mobile devices. - Identify and address complex compatibility and usability issues on all platforms. - Select effective testing methods and tools, ensuring alignment with complex project requirements and objectives. - Identify, document, and report bugs, and contribute to the issue resolution process by providing detailed and constructive information. - Facilitate communication between QA and development teams for effective and timely bug resolution. - Actively contribute to risk assessment and impact analysis based on requirement analysis. - Coordinate with cross-functional teams to ensure documentation accuracy and completeness. - Work through complex projects and develop comprehensive test plans that cover all aspects of the testing process. - Collaborate and communicate with technical teams and key stakeholders by translating technical jargon into accessible language for non-technical stakeholders. - Maintain appropriate professional designations and up-to-date knowledge of current information technology techniques and tools. You will work directly with client stakeholders to identify high-impact opportunities, lead structured discovery, launch pilots, and oversee custom AI product development. This is a product and client leadership role focused on applied AI, workflow transformation, and business impact. Clients include professional teams, leagues, major sports properties, and national governing bodies.
