Product Manager65 days ago

Senior Product Manager, Property Tax Optimization Quick Summary We're hiring a Senior Product Manager to build Kin's property tax optimization product from scratch. This is a senior product role that combines product management with full business ownership — you're not just building the feature, you're running the line. Who we are Kin makes life simpler, more affordable, and better for homeowners — especially in the places where climate risks, rising costs, and outdated systems make it harder. We start with smarter homeowners insurance and expand to everything homeowners need to thrive. Using data, technology, and thoughtful human support, we’re building products that are clear, fair, and help homeowners feel confident — so homeowners aren’t left behind when they need help most. Founded in 2016, Kin is a remote-first employer with Kinfolk across more than 35 states. We serve customers in 13 states (and counting). Our disciplined growth, strong customer satisfaction, and focus on long-term sustainability fosters outstanding growth, attracts marquee investors, and earns recognition and accolades, including: - Built In Chicago's Best Places to Work, Midsize Companies (2021-2026) - Forbes' America's Best Startup Employers (2021-2024) - Inc. 5000 Fastest-Growing Private Companies - Forbes’ Fintech 50 (2025-2026) - Great Places to Work Certified (2024-2026) Most importantly, we’re building Kin to be a place where people do meaningful work with real impact — for our customers, our communities, and each other. We're excited to tell you more about how you can contribute to our rapid growth, strong unit economics, profitability, and excellent customer ratings. To learn more about how we work and what we’re building, visit kin.com and see how we work. The opportunity The three biggest costs of owning a home are your mortgage, property taxes, and insurance. Kin's already in the insurance game, and mortgage is underway - property taxes are the next piece. Property tax appeals allow homeowners to challenge the assessed value of their home with their local taxing authority, potentially reducing their annual tax bill if the assessment is found to be too high. We're looking for an ambitious Senior Product Manager to own Kin's newest product area: property tax optimization. You'll work closely with design, research, and engineering to build a new product offering from scratch — owning the roadmap, your KPIs, and a mix of quick wins and bigger bets. Your success will hinge on your ability to connect customer problems to product solutions and build strong relationships across the business to make them happen. Your responsibilities - Define the roadmap for Kin’s property tax optimization product from MVP through scale. - Design the end-to-end customer experience from appeal submission through savings delivery - Work closely with engineering and design to ship fast and iterate based on real outcomes - Develop the operational model: how appeals are processed, how contractors are managed, how quality is maintained - Own the P&L for this product area, tracking unit economics, appeal success rates, and customer sayings - Build and manage a network of property tax contractors - Shape the pricing model and validate with data - Represent the property tax product in leadership discussion and planning cycles - Stay close to the competitive landscape and bring those insights back into product decisions - Partner cross-functionally with growth, engineering, legal, and customer experience Success in this role In your first 6–12 months at Kin, success is less about checking boxes and more about the impact you create. You’ll use your skills and judgment to take ownership of meaningful work, improve how we operate, and help move Kin’s mission forward. Along the way, you’ll deliver outcomes that make a real difference for both Kinfolk and the homeowners we serve. By the end of your first year, you should feel confident in your role, trusted as an owner, and proud of the progress you’ve helped make. - Launch Kin’s first property tax optimization MVP, delivering a clear and simple experience for homeowners to submit and track tax appeals. - Establish the operational foundation for the product, including contractor partnerships, appeal workflows, and quality standards that can scale across states. - Achieve strong early unit economics by validating pricing, improving appeal success rates, and demonstrating measurable homeowner savings. What you’ll bring - 5–10 years of professional experience, including 3+ years in product management at a proptech or fintech company - Hands-on experience at a property tax optimization firm (Ownwell, O’Connor, or similar) — you know how the appeals process actually works, not just in theory - Extensive experience working with agile product and engineering teams in startup and/or rapid-growth environments - A general manager mindset: you think about margins, acquisition costs, and retention — not just features - Embraces AI tools and uses them regularly to accelerate research, analysis, product development, and operational workflows - Comfort building from scratch — this is a zero-to-one-role, not a feature extension - Ability to manage operational workflows alongside product development - Extensive experience working with agile product and engineering teams in startup and/or rapid-growth environments - Hard Skills - Experience building multi-year roadmaps aligning with business stakeholders - Experience using design thinking to identify a customer problem and dream-up potential solutions - Thinks strategically and with a business mindset - Ability to turn incomplete, conflicting, or ambiguous inputs into concrete action plans - Experience working with engineering teams - Effective and concise written and verbal communication - Strong project management skills and well organized - Soft Skills - Can motivate and influence others without authority - Able to communicate with empathy and precision - Has a positive mindset and works collaboratively with team members across the organization - Stays cool under pressure and can manage tight deadlines - Values differing opinions and healthy conflict - Eager and willing to learn, improve, and ask questions How we hire We believe a great hiring experience should be clear, respectful, and human.
